its rich in rare stuff. the more we technologically progress, demand for rare elements becomes higher. thats why private companies like spacex are exploring space, asteroid belt mining like shown in expanse. not technologically or even economically viable but as soon it becomes, ore deposits on earth will become meaningless.

australia is also rich but its run by former british and they know how to avoid being exploited.
