Emo music by emo band, one of the emo bands I like. Original is by Kate Bush. I prefer cover by Placebo .

Original is Britney Spears, one of her hit songs. I find Travis cover to be superior. When I was young everybody knew this song but times changed so I need to actually mention that this is Britney Spears song.

There's also Cocaine by Eric Clapton here but thing is, I believe that original by JJ Cale is actually better. Clapton's version is way richer but I like minimal sound of the original. Matter of taste tho.

Now this is a tricky one. It was composed by JJ Cale just like Cocaine and some other famous Clapton's songs but was recorded by Clapton first, then by Cale. There are couple live versions floating around but I like this Clapton's version the best:

Another live cover of the song recorded by the same band. However this live performance is so different from studio version, it can be considered cover, at least by me lol. Certainly one of the better live performances ever. Mostly because of drummer's performance near the end. Mark is just as good but we're used to him being brilliant guitarist.

I was just bumping the original Ginuwine when it popped up on the radio the other day. All those white people looking at me funny.

Not even close to being better than original in any way. Actually this version is a disgrace and you must be deaf from listening to this screaming mongrel to think it is better than Judas Priest original. Apart from terrible vocals I want to drown in a deepest well on Earth, there's also lack of original tempo which is slowly building to the very end. This cover has no feeling to it because drum section is incredibly weak, doesn't move me in a way original does (every time). Also solo is rather crappy powermetalesque attempt at creating something new and good. Compared to original's solo which is possibly one of the best guitar solos of all time.

If you want to listen to metal bands doing covers, these are way better choices:

Not bad but Phil Collins is too damn brilliant to be replaced by anybody else.

This is actually awesome and somewhat brilliant cover.

Not better than the original but 100x better than the Disturbed cover.

I don't like it, same style as original only worse and overly melodic. Not my cup of tea. In the range of million youtube nobodies covering popular songs.

While we're at crappy covers, I think Come With Me by Puff Dady takes the cake. While not technically full cover, just music it is still terrible. Just shows how before its time Kashmir was and still is.

Yeah well Disturbed cover was crappier imo. I took you for someone who isnt main stream and thats so main stream it makes me gag. Hell its so main stream it comes up before the 1million times better original song when sound of silence is typed into youtube.

Of course it does. Many covers by currentlly popular bands end with 100+ million views while old original song has quarter of it.

Disturbed - Land Of Confusion [Official Music Video] 41,593,518 views
GENESIS - Land of Confusion (1986)  3,027,711 views

No VEVO no views

Judas have VEVO channel and therefore ton of views

generally i usually prefer the original versions unless the cover is very different. it is not easy to make a good cover that have the original theme but with another sound and feel to it. but it is easier than making up an entirely new song that has an equal impact. . . covers is like colouring a b/w drawing someone else made. it doesnt really float my boat. (disregard remixes of electronic music)

phil collins is a genius and his vocal range is (was) incredible. he is one of the greatest musicians of our time. when he pass away he will become a legend.

op needs to change the title to covers you like, if you limit it to what one thinks is better than the original  will be a short thread.

LMAO at people who listen to this shit.

"While it is an incredibly niche and frequently misunderstood genre elsewhere, in Finland it is one of the most popular types of music, and is even played on mainstream radio stations. Finland has more heavy-metal musicians per capita than any nation on Earth: 53.5 per 100,000 people, according to The Atlantic. Even then-US President Barack Obama noted the cultural significance of heavy metal music in Finland at the 2016 Nordic Summit."

your countrymen would be ashamed xant !!

Not better by any means, but a really different cover from the original and an interesting take I think

Man this thread really has me digging through old albums I used to listen to. Kinda nice for self reflection I guess.

Death's cover of Painkiller is tight as fuck and on point. Biggest improvement compared to the original imo is a drum player who actually stays on the beat and not drag behind it or let it fluctuate as much. Definitely a matter of taste but I think in the context of this song it just works better in Death version. The overall sound serves the song a bit better too. Kick drum is snappier, snare doesn't ring and clutter the sound realestate for the whole day after you hit it once. You can actually hear the hi-hat and the cymbals clearly. Guitar and bass attack is much more precise and because the drums are mixed so much better you can hear the bass notes and guitar more clearly. I also just happen to like Chuck's guitar sound.

When it comes to the vocals, yeah Chuck Schuldiner was no Rob Halford but the screaming technique is not too different from the way Halford actually sings. Chuck hits the notes but with way more grunt (or whatever you wanna call it) and way less vibrato, which again is very much a matter of taste. A skill too for sure but it easily becomes a crutch for a singer. Vibrato for singers is like a whammy bar for a guitarist. Good thing to have if you can use it tastefully. Annoying when you use it in every fucking note for no reason.

I think he did very well keeping the balance of sounding like Death and enough like Judas Priest to keep it respectful. Undoubtedly one of the best cover songs ever made. Idk if I would go as far as to call it better than the original tho. They can co-exist without either being better than the other.

Now that we got that out of the way let me post a cover that is better in every imaginable way compared to the original. Ok prepare your anuses here we go:
