I think an overhead attack for Pike and LongSpear would be cool. Not like the usual one for Lances and other 2d-polearms, but something like they got in NW.
Would prevent the good old "oh 3 pikemen? Ill just downblock all day and im fine" situation^^

It's a nice thought, but the pikes would need a severe rebalance if added. I think they perform their role in mass melee well as it is though. If you want 2D support weapons, we already have a lot of them.

Nudges already adressed this problem. Not everyone seems to grasp this, but when I group up with other pikers in strat, I nudge to open up an enemy's defense when needed. Having one attacking direction is still one of the downsides of the longer support polearms compared to 2D ones, but they are needed to balance it out.

Nudges open defense for half a second: hardly possible to react on it, nudges are better exploited by the nudger or simply to combo break.
I agree with your subtext that having a second attack direction for very long polearm would buff them a lot, and the current status quo is OK.
BUT! If another thing could be traded in exchange for overhead stab for long polearms, it would add a great deal of depth to the game for polearmers, and look cool too. Just need to find the balancing factor.

Disagree. Depends on the player you play with. If I volountarily move into facehug position with a pike, there's a reason for it. Good players understand what I'm about to do, and will prepare their attack for the incoming nudge. The nudge lasts long enough to be a very helpful tool, while not being considered overpowered.

At the moment we have 4D, 2D and 1D polearms (could've had some 3D as well, but that's for another discussion). Losing attacking directions is a significant disadvantage, but the weapons still perform very well in certain situations. If pike and long spear were to get overhead stabs, the downside of using one would purely be based on other weapon stats compared to other 2D poles, which in my opinion would be more boring than the balance now.

Pike/longspear would probably get stuck in the ground with overheads, ye that fun addition.

We're talking about an overhead stab

Oh didnt we have that at some point already? I think the issue is that its too hard to recognize the difference in battles.

I wish all spear/lance attacks had the old lift spear up overhead and stab attack instead of the overhead swing blunt dmg it is now. Native mp used to have it too til they changed it.
