Title: Steam summer sale 2017
Post by: Gravoth_iii on June 23, 2017, 11:27:36 pm
yay
Might as well make a thread for it, recommend/post purchases etc.

Picked up some indie titles ive been slightly interested in: Ori and the blind forest, Hyper Light Drifter, Hollow Knight.

I enjoyed Hollow Knight immensely even though I was often put-off by some of the character art style and sound design; and its straight ripping of Berserk and Dark Souls. The platforming and exploration was solid though (aside form the hitching).

Hyper Light Drifter was great as well but I was disappointed by the length and it seemed nebulous just for the sake of it (or lack of budget).

Started to play Ori and Hyper light for about an hour each, both suffer from a VERY slow start, and followed up by unsatisfying combat. It is a pity, it seems like even in indie games the design focus seems to go towards graphics and story.

The dashing in Hyper Light Drifter is strange but I enjoyed the straightforward combat. Ori is more about platforming than anything else, and even though that's often my favorite part of side-scrollers I didn't enjoy the game all that much. Momodora 4 was fun but not enough for a second playthrough even with remixed enemies, Hollow Knight was just better in almost every aspect.

I gave Alwa's Awakening a shot but the pacing was so slow and most screens are big and empty. There was one other metroidvania I tried with a long stupid name but the map was incomprehensible and it revolved around the Ocarina of Time music-playing mechanic.

Got a bit better as i got used to it, just didnt feel like i got any feedback from hitting things. I also dont enjoy the aiming with the pistol, and the delay before you can swing after doing a dodge leap thingy.

Isnt Bastion basically just a story telling thing? Never heard any praise of it as a game, but i do remember the announcer in dota being fun. Mark of the Ninja looks solid, but im not much for stealth gameplay at all.

Titan souls any good? I'll probably get it since its really sheep.

Can you no longer buy things to store in your inventory? It seems like it is only letting me buy to send directly to other players...

I do want to stock up a few copies to give to people that are interested in cRPG

I might pick up castle crashers too. Pretty cheap for a cool game.

Wolfenstein: New Order
Wolfenstein: Old Blood
Antichamber

Nice. So you like wolfenstein series eh?

Big spender. Nice though.

Dishonored 2, Domina, Torment: Tides of Numenera

Very cool. Torment looks interesting. Had it on my wishlist for a while.

Black Desert, in expectation of buying my new computer

I liked it but my internet is too choppy to play it consistently for long lengths of time. Seems to do that to any action mmo I play.

Doom and Bayonetta

Good picks. Doom looks hella fun.

I do, I love the oldschool health system, the fact that you can duel wield sniper rifles and the outstanding german voice acting. Heck, they even have austrian dialects in there, I´ve never heard that in any video game before

I wish I could play it for more than 15-20 minutes before I get nauseous.

Not able to store  games in inventory = not buying any extra copies of warband...

What are they thinking?

My guess is people somehow abused the system because of regional prices so they shut it down

I have Shantae RisI love you Revenge, but i got bored before the game even began. I remember just mashing through stuff and probably being forced into unskippable cutscenes.

that's understandable

there's also Braid, Mark of the Ninja, FEZ, Psychonauts (!) and Shovel Knight which could be worth looking into

Shadow Warrior 2. Wang isnt even remotely as funny as he thinks he is and he is really pissing me off. I still dont fully understand if its intentionally bad, which would make it very good character writing.

If you played the first one then yeah its EXTREMELY cheesy, similar to serious sam. I havent played 2 but 1 is a great game, and i do have a spot for the extreme cheese.
