Title: does 1h/2h bastard sword use my 2h profiency or 2h while in 1h

does 1h/2h bastard sword use my 2h profiency or 1h while in 1h(note:sword is found under 2h section but can be used in 1h)

i have 120 1h profiency and a low 2h profiency. When using the bastard in 1h with shield is it using my 1h or 2h profiency?


p.s:what is secondary mode?

Secondary mode means your 2h will be used as a polearm, using polearm wpf.
I'm not sure about 2h sword with shield though... would be logical if it used 1h wpf.

When you use a shield, a 1.5h weapon is allways governed by the 1h wpf.

In main mode it is a twohander or a onehander when used with a shield (and uses appropriate 2h or 1h wpf), it gets a speed and damage penalty when used with a shield though.
In secondary mode (switch via x), it uses polearm wpf both when used with and without a shield (it can only stab with a shield then though).
There are also a couple of weapons in the 1h section with secondary mode, those are used as 1h with shield in main mode (at no penalty), and as 2h in secondary mode. Looks like you are better off trying one of those.

what's the best all rounder wep for a 1 hander?

All 1.5 weapons do .85 damage in 1h mode.

@Zarthon I would guess it to be the steel pick.
