Meh, looks like your average modern action movie, but set in western world. Probably will have Bay explosions, Disney humour and a "teamwork is important" moral to the story. Also unnecessarily loud sound effects that are supposed to make you go WOWOWOW but actually only annoy you. Calling it a western is like calling Transformers a sci-fi movie.

Rewatched these not too long ago, and A Fistful of Dollars and the Good, the Bad and the Ugly etc. Still the best westerns produced.

love all the old westerns. If new ones aren't too steeped in religiousity I give them a go too.
I enjoyed Natalie Portmans Western too.

I've heard that Germany, which have had a strong western tradition due to all the people of German ancestry in the old west, have produced some decent westerns, any Germans here have any they could recommend?

The Danish western The Salvation from 2014 with Mads Mikkelsen was also pretty decent, upholding many of the best genre conventions.

yes, and Eva Green is such a great actress even without any lines  :P

Deadwood was a good series.


Frank and Jesse (1994) was really good too I thought the newer ones sucked, underrated movie with alot of good actors and some pretty brutal and gnarly scenes.

It's kind of overlooked because of more recent anti-german sentiment from both world wars, but there was alot of persecution of German immigrants to the US in the 17 and 1800's so they went west to establish their own communities and escape alot of it. They were also the largest immigrant minority of the US for 150 years.

The stereotype of Germans around this time was that they were dirty and swarthy non-whites quite far fetched from modern stereotypes of blonde hair and blue eyes.

I enjoyed Deadwood when it was coming out. No idea if it holds up, but Justified is truly great. It's got a lot of western vibes, even though it's set in the modern day.
