While downloading something I found this page: http://www.wupload.com/affiliate-program
If chadz would upload the cRPG patches and everything here, he would gain 19$/1.000 downloads (filesize >100mb). There are 8.000 registered members in here, and even more players, so I suppose there would be about 10.000 to 15.000 downloads, meaning he would earn 190$-285$, if there is a new patch, the same amount again.
Well, it's my suggestion to download cRPG from there sooner or later so he would earn money to pay the servers.
What do you think about it? If it doesn't work he could set another mirror...
-
That actually could motivate the dev team to work and do more patches
-
Somehow this whole thing sounds really dodgy. Where's the money supposed to be coming from? I don't even see any ads.
-
every stat change of an item = new patch!
WE GONNA BE RICH!

I think there are adds if you click on a download link.
An I don't really care how they gonna pay it, if they do pay. I would give it a try!
-
This sounds fishy...
-
Sounds nice with extra money for chadz and them, but its not so cool if all cRPG players' pcs get aids. (or if we have to complete a survey before getting the file or something)

No virus, no survey, but file download will be a bit slower. But for me it would be fine if I would know I donate money by downloading.

Totally. Use this. To make up for slower download speeds, maybe we can get some patch notes so there aren't a million threads saying, "why am I slower?" "what's wrong with my xxxx?" etc etc ad nauseum.

Yeah I would use it, but I have the bad feeling some people don't want this, however.

This, it doesn't really sound very plausible to me. Bandwidth is very expensive.

There are a lot of other pages like megaupload and stuff where you get rewarded if someone downloads you files, But if you don't want to, it's, sadly, your choise.
I just think it's a bid stupid that you need donations and don't take this chance, there is no risk in uploading and trying it, is there?
So rejected, should I close that thread? :-(
-
There's quite many risks.
fraud in all it's different styles and forms.
edit: also, leave it open, maybe someone can convince me it's the best thing to happen to the world since ghandi. no harm in letting people talk.
-
okay, if there is a new patch, you could tell me to upload it there, and give it a try. I could then donate you that money if you want.

thanks for stating you opinion

I say try it whats the worst that could happen?
I just downloaded something to try it and all u had to do is click regular download, wait 10 secs then click download. same as any other hosting site. actually other hosting sites have fake download links which are adverts etc. I would say it was better than most.
ps: plus I would love more often patches! :P

Top considerations:
1. Is it legally OK to do this? Even though it's just for upkeep it is turning a profit on essentially Taleworld's material. I've really no idea, but it's certainly worth considering.
2. Is it safe? Do we trust this site not to fiddle with our already delicately balanced game by putting viruses or guns into it?
3. Can the site actually do 8000 large downloads every few months with reasonable access and speed?
4. If this does turn out to be a scam shall we hang or burn Toffi?

better viruses than guns, there were actually viruses in the middle ages and we don't want to ruin cRPGs flawless historical accuracy.

As Banok siad it's safe, there are nbo viruses, yes you need to wait a bit, but for me it would be fine.

Sites like megaupload ect are excessively slow unless you pay to be a premium member. When a patch gets released it must suck up lots of bandwith. Somehow I doubt sites like this are designed to cope with such immediate heavy usage. In other words, the download speed would be horrendously bad.

well I've never tried it, we can go on and talk about if for months, but I would say we should simply give it a try, then we'll know.

What about you set up an account and put a sample file we download to see the effects ? :o
Btw, this makes me think it's sick how this can be abused by multiple people. I think it's just for stealing files you upload.
-
It's a good idea ! +1
-
If it's safe, hosting a patch on it AND on the regular platform might be great.
If you have time, download it from this one, and feel usefull, else, go on the refular one, and don't complain.^^
But the "if" is there. When was this created ? Did it have any issue before ? What does it ask before accepting to upload your file ? etc...
We don't want Mighty Donkey's PC to crash.
