Title: Help this poor NA white boy with PC stuff
Post by: Tom Cruise on February 28, 2016, 04:47:56 pm
Alright lads. I have a dream. And that dream, is to play the dog shit out of Warhammer Total War (don't start drama on pre order shit). Only problem is my PC for some reason has a hard time running total war games. Everything else runs fine, but once I start getting into big battles, the frames are as low as 15-30 on average. Too choppy of animations to watch. Makes me cry. And I run my graphics normally somewhere with a medium-high setting on various things. Nothing gets crazy high due to me not being able to run it. I am always trying to tweak them and run benchmarks.

Nerd edit: I guess I should mention this is Rome 2.

So in order to fix this, I require the always tech savy CRPG community to help me out. I got some dinky website to get some (hopefully) accurate specs. Making a very poorly educated guess, I would say it would be my video card. It also doesn't help that the specs for Warhammer Total War aren't out yet, but if you guys have any suggestions, anything would be appreciated.

Specs:

Double nerd edit, the reckoning. Missing specs:
C: Drive- Samsung SSD 850 EVO 250GB

Some 600 watt psu, too lazy to check right now

Which motherboard, ram model and timings, you don't need a soundcard that's a ripoff, disks wtf is this 4 drives, get 120/240 ssd partition some for system rest u se for games and another normal 1/2 TB drive for storage. I'd recommend nVidia for gpu but that's my  preference.

Gunna somewhat have to speak in layman's terms buddy lol. Not the biggest techie. Also I do have an SSD for my main drive like games and what not, and also have a secondary hard drive for random shit. I just meant what is there to improve on, mainly performance wise, and specifically for things like Total War games.

Just find some game similar to the game you interested in on that website and see if your machine meets the specs.

So apparently nothing wants to show my GPU. Tried device manager, Radeon app settings, CPU-Z, and all of them just say R9 200 Series. Everest doesn't even detect it. Nor will it detect my mobo, so gf gg.

8GB OF RAM THOUGH.

go to search and type dxdiag, go 1 tab over, to display, and see what it says.

the thing is I'd like to see the specs so we can maybe see what the bottleneck is and what's slowing you down

When you're running the game, check the performance tab of task manager, might give some inclination. IIRC Total War games tend to be quite CPU intensive so it might give you an idea what's up.
