I am following Boston Dynamics Robots since years now and the most amazing thing is the development of balancing system. wow

sure it can balance, but can it dance? Didnt think so.

Few years ago it couldn't even stand on two feet, now it can get up and continue walking. This is the same bull bot, they just modified it a LOT. Give them a decade and this baby boy will move just like the ordinary human.

And deep down inside all we truly care about is how advanced the sex robots will be.

The robots of the future will look at this and call out: "Robot abuse!" They will be justified in exterminating us!

Kinda scary...

Seems like such a laborious task to make them so humanoid. That shot of it walking through the snow and catching itself when it starts to slip up is pretty impressive though... can't imagine how much time was spent programming, testing, modifying the code until it was actually able to catch itself like that. I wonder if they put it on a different terrain if the same code would hold up, or would different programs/code be requires for different terrain?
The thing still has a really long way to go though. Humans when they walk, also have a lot of torso and shoulder movement involved... a simple stride is like a complete movement of the body not just legs. Until they nail that down it seems the bipedal robots will always be at a disadvantage when it comes to walking/balancing. Wonder how long before they craft a single robot that can beat every gold medalist of the olympics in their respective competitions.

This guy is an asshole! Robots are decent people, don't treat them like that :(

It's adorable to read attempts at making sense of what goes on under the hood such as this. I can tell you, nobody tried to "code" the behavior of that robot on snow manually. The dynamics and interaction of forces is much too complex, and snow is too unpredictable.

It's adorable to read comments from the salty robotics expert taking time off his busy post graduate study in robotics at MIT to belittle others because there might be a chance they don't know every aspect of cutting edge robots.
Pretty amazing that nobody programmed or worked on any code when creating this robot. Provide links please.

Question is, can it play Minesweeper?

It's not that either. People build a process for the robot to "learn" to walk on snow and other complex things. There is still code and programs involved, just at a higher level of abstraction.
