Title: The Black Death
Post by: Asheram on February 06, 2016, 11:15:45 pm
This looks like it could be interesting...

http://www.greenmanloaded.com/black-death
"Key Features:
•Survive. It’s not just the plague you need to watch out for. Hunt, harvest or steal supplies to avoid meeting your end in a harsh medieval world.
•Live. Pick from range of professions to suit your play style. Fight as a Warrior or farm as a Peasant? Make your choice.
•Fight. Choose your battles wisely. Time your swings and parries wisely to strike your foes with a unique combat system.
•Explore. Inspired by the landscape of Western Europe, Plague features a 8km2 world with a day / night cycle, animals and a range of characters to interact with.
•Buy. Everything has a price. Weapons, armor, houses and more are all able to be purchased throughout the land. How you earn your coin is up to you..."

+ Nice to see a game finally about the black death
- Hope the voice acting is better than the guy presenting it in the trailer

After a bunch of early-access survivalgames that never caught on, I never felt more unenthusiastic.

How are they publishing it, it's a site that sells Steam keys.

More to the point, this seems just like the indie game where you get a couple of people at the start and a barn and then build a city, the end. Can't remember the name, but I bet you it will be as bland as that. Fun for a few hours, then back to Melee.

Anyone with Money can publish a game ^.^

Unless they let people do servers with different rulesets I don't think this one will succeed.

Actually I think the heterogeneous server structure is one of the main reasons this kind of game tends to fail.

Actually I think the heterogeneous server structure is one of the main reasons this kind of game tends to fail.

They are boasting about having "classes" from knight to a mere farmer. Then they tell you the knight can barely craft any food/water so they have to get some from the people (And npcs too?) that play as farmers or mug/kill them.

Guess what will most of the people do?

That's why I'm saying it needs servers with different rulesets. These games tend to attract a large amount of dicks.

The combat looks like crap.  They use stances.  I hope this is not the way Melee game is being developed.

Is there any medieval open world RPG game that doesn't?

The combat and movement animations look terrible. The idea of the game is nice.

dont buy  :P
1. bug at start the game, it freezes after the logo. if you are lucky enough go to step 2.
2. bug a connection to the server, after no successful attempt to connect the game requires a reboot. Returning to step number 1.
3. then u cnnect to the server there is a chance spawn as "camera" and not as player.
4. If you were able to spawn as player game can crashed: when collecting resourses, at loot, etc.
5. If you successfully managed to avoid all the bugs and crashes, then after some time server crashed itself and remove all the progress

Oh, and I'm not talking about the broken AI and unbalanced economy  :P

haven't been following this closely, just dropping this in here: for an indie multiplayer game it's very very VERY difficult to scale servers properly in an initial release in terms of server costs. initially you have a huge peak, and then it drops within a few days. if you scale servers for the initial peak, you end up with a  lot of unused servers that are probably unaffordable. if you scale more economically you will get the current situation. if you use cloud servers to scale dynamically you pay a lot more for the cloud, because cloud is a lot more expensive than dedicated servers.

it's a tricky thing to balance and get right, and you only get one shot. just saying that, also something to keep in mind for other games you might play at some point *cough*

judge servers after a week, not day one

Graphics look pretty nice but combat looks awful. I don't see myself playing it...  I already made the mistake in buying Reign of Kings. Not gonna repeat that
