Title: Will combat be physics based?
Post by: Gaz.Spencer on December 24, 2015, 08:41:20 pm
Would the combat have really physics when you hit someone's armour? Almost like Kingdom Come: Deliverences combat? It would just feel way more realistic and fun. Also is it going to be sort of similar to the sword controls in their earlier idea of M:BG?

As far as I know, every weapon and piece of armor will have kind of a hitbox all of the time. That is to say, you won't be able to swing through the shaft of a spear with your sword, even if it's just sitting idly in ints user's hands, not performing any kind of block. Unless they implement the ability to hack off spear tips.
According to the last devblog there will be multiple stances, each offering a different array of attacks and ?blocking? techniques. Don't know much about combat in Kingdom Come, but it seems to be sequence based. To my knowledge, combat in Melee is going to be much more fluid. Like Warband, but without the quirks and a bit of icing on top.

Sounds great! Just the thing I'm looking for. I'm just getting so impatient  :D

Imo 'physics based' is just some of those magic words used to bring attention to players interested in this kind of stuff but meaning next to nothing gameplay-wise. I mean the interaction of objects is of course important but it doesn't say anything about how you control actions of your character or your weapon.

Having real physics just makes things flow, but doesn't really affect gameplay.

This exactly. From my viewpoint physics based combat is only interesting if it improves combat in a general sense.

That's why I want physics collisions when a weapon hits armour, not like Warband, where the weapon pass through the character.

If it's at the expense of playercount (and it will be) I'm against it. Basically I'm happy with Warband's mechanics plus better animations.

What do you mean by player count? The amount of people that are allowed in the server? If it will affect any other mechanics of the game then I would also be against it, but if possible it would just make it look cool.
