teeth's heart. well there's no civilization but a witty one liner such as "ur a fga". or you could go for oberyn's one, the witty one liner is replaced by stuff like

What they want is to kill us. Turning the other cheek just makes it easier. Did you see the extremely publicized response of the man whose wife got killed? His child will grow up without a mother and his reaction is to pretend he is living in some sort of fucking Hollywood movie. And this is lauded and aplauded. "I will not give you the gift of my hate", it's pathetic. How many more families have had a completely different and justified reaction of hatred and loathing for the assholes who murdered their loved ones? Why aren't those responses publicized and published and lauded? Doesn't fit with the apathetic, passive reaction narrative that should be addopted, apparently. Do you really think daesh's main goal is to get westerners to hate them (as if we needed any more reasons) so there can be a game of 11th dimensional chess where this somehow makes daesh stronger? How many times must they clearly state their intentions, how many more dead before these idiots blinded by childish disney level reasoning open their eyes? "Violence never solves anything, it's because of (our) violence that daesh exists in the first place, what we need is MORE tolerance and love and multiculturalism".

These muslim extremists are insane, they truly think they will fulfill some sort of apocalyptic prophecy if the countries and cultures they loathe and attack relentlessly finally do what they should have done years ago, and your response is to go "We shouldn't completely obliterate these backwards pieces of shit, this is exactly what they want". Yes, because they think they're protected by divine providence and fate, that if the west invades them it will end up in the west's destruction. And you take these delusions seriously? It's time to give them exactly what they want. Let them face armies instead of slaughtering defenceless civilians. What do you idiots think, that if we put boots on the ground daesh will somehow come out victorious? Same thing will happen as always happens whenever these pieces of shit come up against the armies of modern western nations. They will just turn their hatred inward and go for easier targets, as happened in Iraq and Afghanistan. Western hatred or lack thereof is completely irrelevant, they don't need the actions of "crusaders" to galvanize their own hatred, "tolerance and understanding" will not disarm them of it. There's more than enough reasons and justifications of their own agency. The planet does not revolve around us, not everything that happens is a "reaction" to us.

Tough decision, gonna have to make it during the next years, again... :)

(for those who don't know: I moved from Germany to Paraguay couple years ago, so I know that process already, incl. faulty expectations and the side effects of tropical paradises... ;-) )

Tropical gets annoying after some time (fucking heat/humidity makes you dumb, well, at least me), but has a lot of advantages...

Too little infrastructure/civilization has many advantages, but is kinda annoying as well or requires serious effort (complete off-the-grid stuff incl. power generation etc.pp.)

Also: shitty ping. IKR.

On my list: Belize, Dominica, Colombia, Costa Rica, but: I have to check out a few "moderate" places as well, to see how that sort of climate/vegetation feels after 6 years in the humid subtropics... so US is an option as well.

Might have to shave though, heard they are a bit touchy with bearded "terrorists" and I don't care much about that usual "experimental" interrogation stuff....

Friends of mine are pushing me to check out Bali... hmmm... sounds pretty decent with lots of alternative infrastructure, healthy food, yoga retreats and whatnot, but somehow Asia has never "called" me.

We'll see.

Anybody else here already an expat or living "digital nomad" lifestyle?

Incorrectly quoted ;-) Or I was unclear.
Paraguay is often referred to as some kind of tropical paradise as well (minus ocean, minus the fact that it technically is humid subtropics).
Esp. by shady creatures who prey on new immigrants and their money... ;-)
The ones you mentioned as possible targets I have no knowledge about - although some of the things might apply there as well.

When I moved here I had very little knowledge about the country and just a couple of Internet contacts. But then again my motivation was just: get the fuck out of that annoying crowded Europe and try something totally different in a warm country with relatively liberal immigration laws. So I was not "disappointed", but after a couple years you see many things with different eyes - compared to being there just on holiday or for a couple months like a digital nomad usually does.

Most "side effects" are climate related - problems with architecture, no matter what style you prefer, frequent thunderstorms (and usually unprotected crappy power grid...), massive stress for your electronic devices thanks to heat and humidity and voltage fluctuations, everything that you do not use daily is eaten by mold or ants, documents and the like rot away as they deserve it, but it is sometimes kinda problematic, many people develop fatigue/cardio related problems after a few years in this climate, friends who lived somewhere in the Bermuda region/Caribbean for several years could not stand the salty air any more, etc.pp...

The other part is people - again, being a tourist is quite different from living there (wherever "there" is). Local culture, but also the expat communities... there are very different kinds of expats/immigrants (e.g. here most are paranoid-aggressive whining chocolate chip cookies and other nationalist preachers) and it is a good idea to explore that a bit before you settle down in a country...

Best practice, looking at my own experience and several friends of mine:

become location independent with whatever you do for a living - start long-term traveling - start traveling more slowly after a "shortlist" of countries has formed - stay in interesting places a couple months each, preferable at least twice to test different seasons... only then maybe go through the hassle of permanent residence permits and the like...

P.S.: with so many people trying to "get away" somehow and the raise of the digital nomad movement you have expat / nomad groups on facebook for almost every country imaginable, following those groups for some time usually gives you quite some information about the reality of everyday life there. Sites like nomadlist.com etc. are useful as well when checking basic prices, internet quality, etc.

Implying northern sweden isnt the place everyone else wants to live in already. Perfect glorious winter, most sun hours in sweden, with beautiful midnight sun during summer and temperatures that arent too hot. Close to untouched nature to hike in etc etc.

Id rather just try to see all the positives in my own city rather than dream of others, which probably end up being overhyped.

Allthough i would consider new zealand, been there already to confirm it also being pretty top tier.

Cold, rainy, cloudy as fuck, feminázis, extreme nationalists, very socially shy and reserved people unless drunk, which is when they become obnoxious and annoying as fuck. Plus religious extremism being tolerated here in a way.

Would rather move to the US or Germany or maybe some tropical island

Not that cloudy/rainy, allthough it varies from year to year. Personally i dont think its very cold at all, maybe when it drops to -35 but not before that.

Isnt germany the same, but the people dont have to be drunk to be obnoxious? And US, i dunno, seems pretty low tier.

Show me a first world country without poverty.  You can't.

Meanwhile, the US has more wealthy people than anywhere else on earth.  Wealthy people generally live near other wealthy people.

All the places I would choose to live I haven't been to... and my opinion would most definitely shift after living there...

If I had to make a list I think I would put Canada and New Zealand pretty high on my destinations-to-live list.
Europe has some really nice countries and towns but overall it seems like there is so much drama/conflict from all the countries and a lot of areas seem pretty close minded when it comes to minority immigrants. Of course that's just my ignorant perspective, because I've never been to europe... not meaning to cause any offense.

If satellite based internet was just as fast and responsive as a fiber optic linked city... I wouldn't mind living on a cruise ship. Give me an excuse to stay indoors and game all day long for days at a time while we are out at sea, and then there would be like a new destination every few weeks or less <3

It's pretty sad but when I look at places to live one of the first things I gauge is internet speeds...

Is it like a natural gas/oil refinery place or something?

Looks like the people who live there are wealthy... It actually looks pretty cozy.

I would have to check out India again. but from what I remember from 20 years ago There were some places where I could imagine opening a little travelers lodge. but I am scared to go back because I might find that globalization and tourism destroyed what I liked.
but the thought of moving is getting stronger since berlin is overrun by tourists and the anarchic chaos of possibilities and clubs that made me love that place faded away.

"What have I done?"

It had so much plot and the things that happened were actually meaningful in the big picture of the whole series. No filler and fluff like almost every other series out there. Political wrangling almost on the level of the House of Cards. And of course war and cool battles and everything sci-fi.

Yeah you should definitely check out Bali, food is great, lots of expat if you feel home sick, most of the locals speak english, there's no boundaries between locals and foreigners (they are very welcoming but don't have too much deference either), food is great, diving and surfing there is amazing.
