She's guarding them not hypnotizing :c

I would not be so sure...  :D - AND she is totally entranced by them, so it is bidirectional hypnosis. Ridiculously cute. :)

LOL Jona. My English is a bit rusty, so I'm mumbling even worse than usual... :D
But there are subtitles in case anyone cares what I'm saying... :D :D

Fucking love the accent, Hirlok. Really, almost seems like a delightful sort of mixture between German and the southern US accent of my home.

I've got a couple dozen of fowl, give or take.

And a qt doggy.

I live in Georgia, so it snows semi-annually or so here. Birds didn't know what the fuck was going on with all that shit.

Hehe, cute!!
My dogs would go apeshit - they have never seen snow in their life! :D :D

Cute chickies you have there - even one of those annoying noisy ones, whateverthefuck you call them in English... the dotted one in the background...  :)
And that dog is sweet! Looks like he is quite the intelligent fox :)

Also: Chicken dog parkour... :)

Sandersson, what race is your dog?

Sandersson, what race is your dog?

She's a thorough-bred Welsh Corgi!

Got her for free from some breeder friends. Poor thing was infertile, and they've got little interest in pets. She just stayed in a kennel all day and never really had an opportunity to socialize with humans or other critters.

So she's very shy and standoffish, even to me and my kin. Almost never barks. Such a sweet little thing, though. I honestly suspect that being repeatedly shafted by male dogs without results has a lot to do with her disposition.

My dogs would go apeshit - they have never seen snow in their life! :D :D

I live in Georgia, so snow is only a semi-annual sort of thing. The birds didn't know WHAT the fuck was going on, nor the dog.

Oh, I forgot. The ugly-ass bird in the first picture is one of two Guinea fowl we picked up. Poor fuckers got wrecked by a coon, the filthy bastard snatched on of them right through the chicken-wire of their enclosure. Tore the other guy's wing right off, but left him!

He recovered, and he's only got one wing. He's pretty much a fucking asshole, though. Bullies the other birds and squacks for no goddamn reason all the time. And he's ugly.

I don't even know why he's still around!

Maybe because we like them odd ones. We have a chicken here that almost was eaten by a possum (before Neerah and I got the possum...) and now hops around on one leg - she is one of our oldest, and we just like her, so she can be around as long as she can and wants... same with our rooster, he currently has some nasty infection (sour crop, but not in the typical way... ) and everybody says "yeah, kill him, is just a chicken" - but for us the little guy is family and you don't get killed just because you have a sore throat. :D

ah, Guinea fowl.... right... neighbor has tons of them, noisy as fuck, but funny in a way... Perlhuhn ("pearl chicken") we call them in German. Not my type of chicken though. Might do some cross breeding between our "normal" ones and some silkies, the mix looks always hilarious with those little punk heads / funny hair... :D

Hah, I think you're right. Our birds are treated much more as pets than livestock, to be honest. Very easy to attribute human characteristics to dear pets. I find myself thinking "oh, the poor little guy didn't do anything wrong, no need to end his life!" when in reality he's just a jackass loud bird.

This was an interesting and awesome insight to both awesome community members Sandy and Hirlok.

If snow's hitting you this year Sandy, I am sorry... Last time I saw that (skiff of snow) in Georgia, people died...

To end that sad note... Hirlok, your furry critters are cute as hell! She's a good dog if the hens are cool with her presence so close.

I'd like to announce that Florida is still warm and awesome... Though this morning I did have to snag a sweater because high 60's was too cold for my nips.

yup, their language is sometimes so funny... and they have a LOT of different sounds and are talking all the time... :)

Interesting anyways - when they can live "as chicken", rather free, and in their own way, they develop totally individual character traits and become real little "personalities", not the rather uniform greedy chicken horde you meet in the average overcrowded chicken coop (let alone those factory-farming atrocities...).

Sometimes very annoying and with their own and sometimes weird "culture", but really funny and cool critters.

Hundred percent, man. I've worked a bit on a commercial chicken farm as a basic bitch laborer. Things are worse than sad; malformed-looking nasty critters, incredibly stupid even by chicken standards. We've got a few acres to let the things run around...they seem to like it in the woods a lot. Goddamn forest chickens!

But yes, some of them are standoffish and shy, some are very friendly and curious, some are rude-tempered bitches. Really funny to see how they interact with one another.

Same here. Currently just 2 acres and penned in over night, but before they had almost unlimited space (neighbor had 100+ ha of forest/meadows/wild shrubs) and went on looooong chicken adventures. They are forest birds originally, and they did not forget that. For a long time ours did not even have a coop/stable, they preferred to sleep on a lemon tree.... :D
Interesting that even so many centuries of abuse, degeneration and strange breeding goals have not wiped out what they know... they even hunt, little snakes, frogs, and whatnot... make their nests somewhere in the wild (or 2 m from my door, like the black hen in the vid)... pretty self-organized and independent. But they like to be around humans, not just for the food. Funny, after all that we have done to them...
