We've discussed this for a long time, and the current forum situation is very confusing for new players. Hell, it even is for us sometimes :P

It's hard to understand what game this forum is about, is it this, is it that, are they connected, etc.

So, in light of our new devblogs and public information starting to get rolling, we will, in the next weeks, move this forum back to forum.c-rpg.net , where it rightfully belongs. A new Melee specific forum will take this place, with new designs and all the bells and whistles that an updated forum has. And Leshma gets an unfiddled reputation bar.

Let me know what features you'd like to see in the new forum, we haven't decided on a software yet, so feel free to recommend some good forum software and plugins they have, but of course we'll also do some research ourselves.

Make the message part more like that u can have chats. Like if u want to talk to someone or groop chat, like we have it on the crpg site. And add some themes, like swords, bow n'shit. Atleast in the fiting subforums!

Yeah I can easily imagine this forum being confusing for new comers who come to check out M:BG and don't know/don't even want to know about crpg. Good call in my opinion.

Some other forum I use has it, and it's very useful to keep track on the discussions I've participated in.

PS: or you could do it so that everyone gets these notifications, not only me.  :)

Having a steam plugin can be nice.  They have a nice one on the assetto corsa forum: http://www.assettocorsa.net/forum/index.php
They display the steam profile and if you are online just under the avatar:

I don't know if you plan to relase the game on steam but if yes, it can be a nice addition to the forum imo.
(don't make it mandatory)

Edit: Also, make a damned main menu in fixed position (css) so he gonna stay visible if you scroll to the bottom of a topic.

Might be useful to have something like that.

Or just join multipost messages under one nickname/avatar but separated as different messages (like with one signature for all joined messages etc.)

would be great if our "ranks/reputation" + a special sign for beeing a crpg.player could be setteled or written there somehow aswell ... to be honest dont wanna lose my Renom/Infamy <- so much green - pls save it  8-)  ...  dont get me wrong but at the moment the new game is running this forum will be "dead" ...

Couldnt care less about tech stuff, but I do want one thing:


Even if the game sells 10k+ copies, and we are drowned in a sea of plebeians, I hope the new forum will remain as free as this one.

I'd like to see melee on vbullitin with portal-site function and download section and stuff.

I still have the hope that the game will get mod friendly and this way would be a great platform and a big reason to buy the game and dont just later on pirate it like many internet people do it.

You only give register access to those who bought the game (by serial key or whatever), so you can only see the big amount inside vbullitin (board, download, add download) this way you can have a modding community like elder scrolls (linked example for vbullitin) (http://www.scharesoft.de/joomla/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=27) and stuff, you would force them to buy the game to get serious conversations about modding and new shared content and stuff.

But this would cost some monies getting the software and also some server space is necessary since uploading mods can be kind of space consuming, but I bet it would be profitable for you guys..

I didnt ment to create exclusive content - unregisterd are just not able to talk about provided community content so theoreticly you could download the mods even with pirate, and read posts, but still don't have the possibility to communicate on the site, neither you can upload ripped new created content as unregisterd. And for those who bought the game it's nothing different, if you want to upload/discuss you can easily register...
(everyone can read and download, registers can write and upload as well)

That way it's not realy exclusive but when you have more interest in modifying the game than only downloading a mod, you have to buy it to get rights for adding content and stuff like this.. it's minor exclusive i would say :D


But the portal-site and download section is still a part I would like to see somewhere, it's an attractive bonus  :wink:

Well okay, so maybe handle it a bit different.

Guests can read all topics.
Everyone is allowed to register. Its completly free 4 everyone.
As registered you can write as well.

But adding the abillity to link your forum account to your game account somehow (maybe by filling a field on modify forum profile or even steam connect).
If you do so and enter a valid name/serial/whatever you get pfff something like err "Gentleman and scholar" an icon, or maybe you have more information about your "epic" family tree etc, in your profile... there a plenty ways for such things.

Since epic is something i bet no cracked version will get you on the battlegounds (maybe on small pirated battlegrounds, but who cares about those shitty stuff).
That way players would have the possibility to valid their game on the forum, and if there is a mod community and the stuff I wrote the posts before, you can still filter the users rights, but dont leave out any person outside of the forum/without validation..

Well if you want to use more board function you may have to link your epic character - shouldnt be a problem for real gentlemans.

You lost your old forum account?
Create a new one with small disadvantage and make a support request validating that the old account belongs to yours, by simply validating with a small part of the cd key wouldn't be a problem at all.. or am I wrong?

Getting to the Paradox system, I'm sry, I never checked that board out.. :oops: all I know is that I can read everything on their site and that's all I need from Paradox forums (I'm not an m&b dev at all so I dont have to check out much stuff there) :oops:

Well assuming mods are restricted to bullshit like weapon skins and voice stuff, etc -> they can just make it compatible with steam workshop... >.>
In that case, they can just ignore our small discussion and we can stop right here :lol:

yeh I like the badges aswell

also:
- preview button for posts
- being able to edit your posts after posting (highly reduces doubleposts)
- upvote/downvote system and ranks like "Earl" or "Baron", it keeps the forum alive
- being able to include quotes, spoilers, images and youtube-vids (and maybe webm´s, plz?)
- being able to hide posts from specific players, that´s a nice (but well hidden) function in this forum

The problem with that is independence. We'd be happy to provide that, but it also means that we have the final say on what content is on there, because we'd be also responsible for it.

I totally understand having your own portal if you want to run it your own way. It was the reason we moved from the TW forum to our own back in the days.

I totally understand having your own portal if you want to run it your own way. It was the reason we moved from the TW forum to our own back in the days.

The other good thing is the referencement. With many links directed on the official forum or website, the indexation will work better for both website with the result of even more visibility.

Better visibility = better solds.

All these pics of crying cats makes me sad and want to hug kitties, but I can't help but think crying isn't normal for cats and they're probably suffering from some weird eye sickness.

Yep, that's what my mom's cats used to have. It's genetic with some races and they need medicin for it.
