Title: Return of Reckoning
Post by: Umbra on October 14, 2015, 08:09:07 pm
Hi, Warhammer online has returned in the form of a  private server  (http://www.returnofreckoning.com/). I played many mmo-s but none can compare to warhammer online in terms of pure pvp value.

Battlegrounds and realm vs realm combat from lvl one. Leveling, getting gear and gold purely from pvp. 0 grind, i literally havent done a single pve quest and im lvl 12 atm, all from killing other players.

Here are some screenshots i took today.

My ingame name is Clementine, also add Gnjus. I played retail for 3 years so, if you are new, i will tell you everything you need to know to get started quickly.

What's the population? How long has this been out?

750 is the current cap and it is usually filled at prime time. As of this moment 654/750 players.

I'll try it out. I'm guessing the game isn't overly buggy? It took years to make vanilla WoW mostly bugless.

I assume all action revolves around T1-T2 and there is almost no T3-T4 players?

Owait they are only planning to implement T3.

Nevermind me I'm russian.

Currently T1 and T2 is implemented. T3 is 2/3 done and released soon. As for T4, it will take some time.

Vibe my main in retail was witch elf. I hope you are a very calm person since you are the ultimate glass cannon class and will constantly die.  :D

As for bugs, the only real one i encountered is that the book of binding doesent work sometimes, relog fixes it.

Well it's kinda dated and the combat is tab target, but can still be fun. The big thing about this game is PvP focus - you can basically just PvP 24/7 and not even touch PvE/quests and you will level up your normal rank (character level), pvp rank and get gear. There's also a lot of open world PvP with castle sieges, territory control and so on. Was pretty advanced in PvP aspect for it's time.

Vibe my main in retail was witch elf. I hope you are a very calm person since you are the ultimate glass cannon class and will constantly die.  :D

Haha yeah, I know, I remember them being glass cannons :D Honestly, the classes are very rock-paper-scissors in this game. Either you deal damage and die fast, or you're tanky with shit damage, or you heal. Or you're op wizards lel, bomb squads or whatever those were called

PvP focus? leveling with PvP only?

That sounds very gud, he would love that. I got interested too.

Yeah, like Umbra said, you can level in PvP from level 1. You don't need to touch PvE/quests ever. In fact it's even more preferable like this since you'll also raise your PvP rank (which comes with it's advantages) and won't be gimped once you hit level cap of 50 (or was it 40? rofl i forgot).

Once you enter Open PvP zones or Instanced PvP you'll automatically be level scaled to the same level as everyone else.

Also to mention, it's not like other games that offer leveling through PvP but with gimped xp gain - in WHO you'll level even faster if you PvP.

So I made a Bright Wizard called Lee. Game seems ok so far, more fun than most of the tab target older MMORPGs I tried out.

I suck as Bright Wizard in PvP, maybe it's my low level and complete lack of gear, but even when boosted to the area level I don't seem to do too well lol. I am casting all spells available to me in combo as fast as possible, but pretty much any time anyone focuses me they just melt me and my DPS doesn't seem to make up for that fact. Might try another class.

Btw Gnjus, how did you solely level up using just PvP? in a party? I get fuck all XP for PvP otherwise and even when a party says 19/24 it told me it was Full.
Title: Re: Return of Reckoning
Post by: Vibe on October 15, 2015, 10:36:29 pm
Bright Wizards do fuckload of damage, at least later on. Specially AoE damage. You just need to stand back behind the zerg and nuke. It's great for open PvP since melee that would otherwise focus you can't breach the shieldwall/meatwall of the zerg. In smaller scale PvP you kinda need to get used to being focused.

Played some T1 world pvp with Umbrahim Rugoba, most of the action is in Nordland, or whatever its called.....that beach village, one good long battle in the evening prime time and you get a lot of XP.......plus scenarios ofc. Now we're in T2 and there's TONS of people here. I think the warband search function is a bit bugged, it doesn't show numbers correctly.
(Also I did all the "speak to XY" quests that send you to different locations, its kinda of pve but without grinding, just riding around, exploring and talking to people, it goes quite fast when you have the time for it at work. :-)

Just ask Umbrahim, I'm a total noob for this, playing it for the first time actually.

Also - don't worry about sucking, I just entered T2 and already got called names and stuff cause I wasn't in the front line (being low level I can't survive much during keep assaults) or wasn't healing enough, its just the internet and "pro" players......pick a class that you like and play it all the way. You'll get there.

Post by: Leesin on October 15, 2015, 10:42:42 pm
Don't get me wrong, the damage seems quite nice, though if it's a 1v1 it seems like I can't cast fast enough to keep up with their DPS and it's game over for me, like some class with ranged just pummeled me with DPS so quickly I could barely get off 2 spells before he killed me and the damage those 2 spells did was laughable. I do stick with the pack nuking, but I don't really feel like I am contributing much to the fight. Maybe it will change when I unlock more spells and get some gear.

EDIT: Yeah Gnjus I had PvPed some in Nordland, guess I need to get into a party there to get more XP.

How is faction balance? All I can see is the little bar on the website, that only shows populations which seem pretty balanced.

Is this represented in faction wars as well, or one side steamrolls the other?

I see you guys play Order though, I'm interested in.. well Chaos, i am edgy and i also liek da tzeneeteche

At least in T1 it seemed balanced. Open PvP is very back and forward, one zerg pushes the other, then the other regroups and pushes back or it's a stalemate.

I dont even look at the xp bar i dont sweat it at all. I just join a warband, fight, cap some objectives, fight in scs etc, and then im like: oh, a lvl, sweet. Always join warbands on lower tiers. Only on t4 is it better to roll solo or in a tight group killing stragglers for maximum renown gain.

As for BW, They are arguably the most op class in the game. They are kinda week at the beginning because you have the drawback of being very squishy without the dps that balances it.

In retail i have seen a good BW in a guild group with a tank protector and a pocket healer wipe a whole pug warband by himself.
Title: Re: Return of Reckoning
Post by: Vibe on October 16, 2015, 09:58:02 am
There was a thing called bomb squads, which was basically a group of Bright Wizards AoEing. It was like dropping a nuke on the zerg. I'm surprised I can't find any videos of it, or maybe I remembered the term 'bomb squad' wrong.

Anyway I wouldn't stress about leveling fast, since not all content is out yet anyway.

Also, a tip. There are repeatable kill player quests in every rvr camp. Go to the dwarves, empire, and elf camps and take them all, they will all complete at the same time. Mad xp/gold gain.

In T1 there are 6 repeatable kill quests in Nordland/Ekrund/Blighted isle. You can complete them all in one good scenario. This means that after every scenario win you get an extra 30 silver and 6k xp.

I read in general chat that there's a lot of so called xrealmers.......guys who play one faction and than just hop to their alt on another faction when it suits them, for example in keep attack/defence.......just don't become one of those.

I recommend swordmaster/runepirest/engi.

If you are feeling L33t you can try archmage, its a hard class to master. It can dps and heal at the same time if used correctly

Holy shit i just realized i can take T2 kill quests with T1 at the same time. I solve 12 quests with 25 player kills. something like 12k xp and 1.5 gold after every succesful sc O.O. Im leveling faster than ever top kek.

And turning in all those quests gives me something to do between sc runs.  :D

I created a sorcerer and figured out how can I join some RvR, it's fun, constant back and forth, huge blobs fighting.

Not really decided on the side to pick though yet. The Bright Wizard just seems a lot of fun, those constant explosions..

I might lean towards the order side too, I mean it has a lot more careers that interest me, like the archmage, the shadow warrior and etc.

I really like how the archers actually aim upwards in this game, it's very cool. Too bad SW has no real mirror on destro since it is a pet class

The squiggy is funny but I don't like the concept. Also used to be alliance in that other MMO, so I'm more used to the typical fantasy race stuff.

Also we can be on the same side then. :P

That's exactly why I'd heavily restrict the naming of guilds/clans/etc in massively online games and keep it tied to the lore.
