Ugh i hope Far Cry 5 takes place in Africa again. Being a mercenary was cool. If just the AI was better and it had a better storyline FC2 would be the best.

FC2 was one of the few FPS games that made you work and think on how to complete each objective.

One big reason is cuz ur thrown inside a big civil war alongside other contractors to find the one selling both sides guns. Pretty awesome plus the African landscape is unforgiveable. Too much Tropical Islands + Mountain circlefests makes me bored. It's a pretty realistic storyline too compared to the others.

Plus setting up IED ambushes against enemies was awesome.

FC2 was the most bland of all of them. When I completed the first map and was then presented with a second it actually felt painful because it was so repetitive and boring. More so than those now.

Many things were done so well, while there were such obvious glaring issues that made the game unbearable to play for long. It really made me wonder how an enormous development team manages to make the design decisions they made and how they can have their priorities so bungled up. The game had such an excellent atmosphere though, that dirty and gritty African feel. For all their obvious improvements, 3 and 4 still offered a worse experience because of a complete lack of any atmosphere.

I think it was that "dirty and gritty African feel" Teeth mentioned. In a sense it felt more immersive/realistic overall. The later installments felt much more like you're in a video game, if not anything else then just because of the more colorful graphics and more interface.

It was malaria plus u can get a quick mod to remove it from the game.

If you fix the AI, outpost respawning and give it a little bit better storyline with more focus on characters then you'd get a great game set in Africa.

I think its about the quantity that makes FC2 stand out now. I mean these open world games with ItsAllAboutFunNow do what you like atmosphere are starting to bore me to death these days. In FC2, the malaria was shit, the enemies spotting you from everywhere was shit, the traveling was shit, the guns breaking was shit, all your friends betraying you was shit, the atmosphere was overall shit and thats why it stands out. I dunno, I wanna play a serius openworld game again where I feel limited and everything sucks. :D

Nothing, and I mean nothing can beat the horror of the first FC when you first encountered those goddamn mutants. Best adrenaline rush I ever had in any single player game. Far Cry 2 was repetitive piece of garbage with garbage random mechanics. FC1 was hard in a good way, FC2 just gave you AIDS.

Well FC3 was goddamn good. It's hard to enjoy FPS's these days but FC3 was a positive surprise. FC4, well yeah looks nice but idk if they ever fixed the PC port frame rate problems (kind of killed my interest).

BTW the first Far Cry is 2,49€ on steam right now. Pretty good deals with the other versions as well.
