Title: Recommend Berenger good PC games - Part 2 (Late 90s-Early 2000s Edition)
Post by: LordBerenger on September 21, 2015, 12:00:50 am
I'm bored and mostly before Fallout 4 there's only crap games for now or I've already played em. Recommend me some good games from the late 90s-Early 2000s.

I've played the Serious Sam series, Doom, Duke Nukem, Deus Ex, GTA and other series so think of some real guud ones. Also no shitty inferior, top down perspective crap.

Dark Forces 2 Jedi Knight Enhanced Edition (fan made patch) 1997
System Shock 2 1999
Requiem: Avenging Angel 1999
SWAT 3: Close Quarters Battle 1999
Messiah 2000
The Operative: No One Lives Forever 2000
Giants: Citizen Kabuto 2000
Return to Castle Wolfenstein 2001
Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon 2001
Clive Barker's Undying 2001
Arx Fatalis 2002
No One Lives Forever 2: A Spy in H.A.R.M.'s Way 2002
Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven 2002
Manhunt 2003
Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2004

Would recommend you Gothic (2001) but there is no way you'll swallow control scheme. Played second in series is kinda pointless without finishing first. For everything else there is either remaster (Homeworld, Half Life) or better successor (like ARMA 3 to Operation Flashpoint, or McGee's Alice, Hitman etc.)

Return to Castle Wolfeinstein always fucks up when i install it. Crashes. So buggy. But ill check the others.

Would've prefered games that remind u of Deus Ex/Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines  etc..

Played System Shock 2 plus it makes me shit my pants. Arx Fatalis looks 2 scurry. Played Vampires. Played Mafia 1. And i thought Manhunt 1 didn't work for Windows 7-8-10 etc...

Well, the PS1 emulator has been running all games perfectly for years. And if you don't have a wooden computer, you might be delighted to know that the PS2 emulator also works wonders. Not to forget the Dolphin emulator. It also works perfectly for Wii games, but some games are a chore to play, as they will require you to shake the Wii controller, circle it around your head, wipe your ass with it and then smell it to see whether you have diarrhea or not, maracas the hell out of the ladies with the nunchuk, vibrate it just enough to give an average clit some tingling etc. Well, you get the idea :D

Wizardry 8 (first person party based RPG like Legend of Grimrock)
Neverwinter Nights: Hoards of the Underdark (best of the NWN games imo)
Final Fantasy 7 + 9 (get emu for 9)
Planescape/Fallout1+2/BG2 etc

Try the old Bullfrog games like Syndicate Wars, Magic Carpet, Theme Hospital, Dungeon Keep. If you like those then get Startopia (made by ex BF devs). Most ofthese old games are probably outdated in more ways than just graphics btw

For new oldschool games then Divinity: Original Sin, Grimrock, Pillars of Eternity, Shadowrun: Dragonfall DC + Hong Kong, South Park: The Stick of Truth, Dragon Age: Origins

Then you have hundreds of good adventure/puzzle games but don't know if anyone's interested in them

The good old Dolphin emu gave me a great time especially with Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2. Can't lie about that. But all those ISO's that I downloaded and all those wasted because of the ridiculous moves the Wii makes you do with its controller... Yeah, I really hated it at one point. As I said, it works great, but for obvious reasons, the several Wii gadgets cannot be emulated fully.

Shadow warrior is similar those action games like serious sam, personally love the genre and shadow warrior was amazing. The remake atleast. Already reccomended the game so many times on this forum, i should be paid. Shadow warrior 2 looks sick too, and it should be getting closer to release.

Since i know you like Kotor, did you know that Kotor 2 is on steam, is always dirt cheap, and now has the full restored content mod accessible and integrated into steam? If you've never played it with restored content then do so, it's great.

The only 2 things i play it with from steam are the full restored content mod (in english) and i also used the 'hide head gear' mod cos most of that shit is ugly and makes me waste the head slot deliberately in a normal playthrough. Both work good so far, no crashes.

There's a separate mod to restore an entire planet that was scrapped from the game, but i hear it's patchy, poorly voice-acted (cos unlike the rest there were no sound files to dig up), and is fairly empty quest-wise (cos the entire Droid Yacht thing with Goto was going to be above this planet but they moved it to Nar Shadda and now Nar Shadda wouldnt make sense without it).

KOTOR 1 was great. KOTOR 2 felt rushed. Still okay but not on the same level as KOTOR 1.

I suggest a better taste in games first, nerdling

Why r u so FURRYous?

Only played a bit of the Redux of the original 1997 version. But it was a funny game.

It felt rushed because it was rushed, and they didnt tie up all the loose ends as a result.

That's why i suggest the restored content mod/patch since it's available on steam, restores a lot that was cut or unfinished on release so that it feels less rushed.

Still don't like the storyline. Kinda reminds me of Mass Effect 3. Not necessarily time limited per say but the storyline makes it feel like you gotta rush it all and feels like there's then not enough focus and detail on everything else.

I never got into Neverwinter but the 2nd was great. I used to play Wizadry 8 when I was like 6 with my dad and it was pretty awesome. KotoR 2 is great with the restored content(gets rid of the rushed feeling). For the newer "old school" games, I've played D:OS, Shadowrun: Dragon Fall, South Park, and Pillars of Eternity and they are all amazing. Divinity: Original Sin is definitely the best especially if you play it CO-OP(great combat/story line).

Mystical Ninja isn't scary. It's about a blue haired guy and his fat friend trying to save Japan from being taken over by dancing robots fired from a peach shaped space ship.

he also fights with a pipe and they´ll get friends like a green haired ninja girl with a bazooka and a cyborg who fights with his hair. Also: huge storyline, diverse gameplay, zelda-like dungeons/castles, good humor

gosh that game was brilliant

don´t forget the awesome powerranger-robot bossfights...and the transformation-intros!
sorry for the crappy quality

I tried Psychonauts, controls were pretty shit and my first hour seemed nothing but an awkward drawn-out tutorial so I quit. It really seemed like a game made for 8-year olds, but I guess I didn't stick it out long enough for all the mature witty social commentary that everybody is so hyped about.

Only scary thing in Deus Ex (1) was Icarus phone call. And I've played enuff of scary games. No more.

... but I guess I didn't stick it out long enough for all the mature witty social commentary that everybody is so hyped about.

Pretty much that I guess. It takes a little bit of patience to get into it. But believe me, it isn't just an overhyped piece of garbage. It really is a game worth playing from the beginning to the end. No idea about the social commentary part though. I try not to squeeze meaning out of games unless they are obviously trying to communicate a message.
