Title: 1H/Shield at 35+
Post by: Breidr on July 29, 2015, 05:25:06 am
Now that EXP and things have changed, I'm unsure how to spend all of my points.  I went with a 21/18 at 33, I may take it to 36 and go 24/18, but that leaves one point hanging.

How do shield builds look in the current game?

Depends on how you like to play.

Agi shield build, level 35: 15/27. Gives you 9 athletics, weapon master, and shield skill, with 5 power strike. You'll need to use harder hitting weapons and you'll be fragile, but the mobility and 200 WPF lets you choose your battles and make quick work of archers.

Strength shield build, level 35: 30/15. Gives you 5 weapon master, athletics, and shield, with a mighty 10 power strike and a still very decent 140 WPF, with one extra point you can throw into ironflesh. You'll hit very hard and can be a tank on the battlefield if you wear heavy armor, but still retain a decent mobility if you wear lighter armors.

Balanced shield build, level 35: 21/21. Gives you 7 weapon master, athletics, shield, and power strike, with an extra 4 points for ironflesh. This technically makes you tankier than the strength build, and also leaves you a lot of versatility with weapons choice and mobility. Also makes for an excellent 1h cav build if you take away 3 points from strength and throw them into riding.

I've done all of these builds many times, and found that I do the best with the balanced build. However, you don't have to fit the mold exactly, you can take away some agi for strength or vice versa; it really depends on how you like to play. The new xp/gold means that more players will be wearing more armor, so a harder hitting build is probably best to have right now.

I recommend the 21/21 build tbh. I just did it when RPing as Captain America a few weeks back. Very good on battle and is strat fights

Thanks for the help.  I'm going to retire a few times anyway, so I will try a lot of these builds out.

Currently respecced into a 27/15.  I added on the extra strength because I feel fast enough and the shield rarely breaks, I want to see what 9 Power Strike feels like.  I may balance things out next gen and see what happens.  21/21 seems very solid as well.

For a shielder, str and agi builds shine. If you're going to do strat, I'd recommend a str build. If you're going to use it in battle/siege, then do what you like. The builds suggested by Palurgee are decent. I wouldn't do a 30/15 build. Maybe temper that to 27 or 24 str for a str build but if you like it that way, go for it.

Its easier to play with the builds now with the weekly resets and the lvl 35 stf. Good luck.

27/15 is a personal favourite,  dat ironflesh with plate basically massive reward for nearly no effort at all. 1h best animations too but lacks damage outside strength builds.

30/15 or 27/15. You'll be at disadvantage sometimes because of 15 AGI but if you know what you are doing you'll be able to overcome annoying AGI spammers. After some time you'll feel like you have 30 AGI, when you get in da mode. Hiltslash is your friend

you can actually go 27:18 with 35

If you go high lvl the build will be probably more effective, but I did pretty well with my 35 char
Atleast it´s better than a shielder with full IF, as long as you don´t go plate it´s not needed.

This is what I like. 8 PS and 7 ath/WM gives you a lot of damage as well as good footwork and movement. Its a great build.

At my advice, IF is very important for a pg that it is st 1 line.
With a shield u can ingage more people and probably without IF and a good armor, you die fast.

So 21/21 is the best build.

I think you overestimate 1 point of athl. I feel currently that 5-7 athl is quite similar in effectiveness and 8+ is when you can actually start using athl as an advantage. Allthough there is patience and timing to low athl which can be tricky. 18 HP extra with plate can mean 2-4 extra hits to sak,  6 athl does not give you the movespeed to make up for that tank. 30/15 maybe if you want minmax damage output, survival is key to battle though.

24/21 or 24/18 , 7 vs 8 ps makes a lot of difference imo. and IF is quite important for a "frontline" type of  shielder.
