Hello, long time player here but not up to date with changes from the past year. Now that the level cap is higher and other changes I find myself at a loss when trying to determine How much melee wpf I need vs. crossbow wpf.
I was looking at making my build
Str: 15
Agi: 27
One Handed:123
Crossbow:165
Weapon Master:9
Athletics:9
Iron Flesh:5
Shield:4
Power Strike:5
So do I Need more one hand wpf or xbow wpf? Plan on using a very fast 1hand like 100 speed and the heavy crossbow. Any help would be great.

Hiya.
I'd personally go with more strength, problem with 5 PS is your effective weapon usage is quite limited, you'd need a blunt or a pierce weapon to not glance all the time but if that is your weapon of choice then its fine.
The WPF is all up to you, depends how much you wanna be able to melee / xbow. I Always go 100 wpf in 1hand and rest in xbow.

I would recommend putting more power into the melee side of your build.
Personally I enjoy 24/21 with 143 2h wpf and 97 Xbow proficiency.
Weapon Master:7
Athletics:7
Riding:0
Iron Flesh:4
Shield:0
Horse Archery:0
Power Strike:8
Power Draw:0
Power Throw:0
*Note this build is for playing at lvl 35-36, at a lower level IF must be sacrificed.

before making a build you gotta do a decission:
Do you only want to shoot enemies?
Do you want to go melee as often as possible?
Do you want to be able to go melee? so in case that you are prepared.
For decission 1: (lvl 35)
Go 18 30 without IF, Shield and ps
so only 10 wm and 10 ath.
Than you skill everything on crossbow and you will be a awesome sniper. Your crosshair will be almost closed.
For decission 2: (lvl 35)
Make a 18 27 build with ...
9 wm
9 ath
6 ps
2 if
than try to split up the wpf to:
one handed: 157
crossbow: 135
For decission 3: (lvl 35)
Go 18:27, same build as with decission 2, but:
one handed: 100
crossbow: 177
For sure there are many other kinds of crossbows, I for example played a 18:27 Full plate with lvl 36 and it was crazyly awesome. But full plate without good gloves :D
but at all nobody can tell you what build you have to take.
If I was you, I would go 15:24 and than just check what I need. Do I need to be a better sniper? Do I need to be faster in melee? doing more dmg and so on. That's the best way to find your build :D

The only thing I can add here is below 120 WPF for xbow w/ mid-high AR and 0 IF, makes you miss more often than not centered beyond 15-30 feet.
1handed is pretty easy to play with, 130 and you dont need much more than that for your avg player, beyond ~145 and gains are not noticeable
My fav melee / xbow build is prolly 21-24
Polearm: ~140
Xbow: ~130
PS:7
Ath: 8
WM: 7-8
IF: Last to add into.
Not a big fan of playing ranged these days though, There is alot of ppl playing CAV now that is monetarily feasible and alot of ganking that can occur.
James' build is better if your know your going to be Meleeing more often than not.

My favorite:
Level 35
21/21
7ps/7wm/7if/5shield/6ath
120 1h
127 xbow
If you are looking to retire at 35 you could do something more like
Level 34
18/21
6ps/7wm/6if/7shield/7ath with 2 skill points left over
1201h
127 xbow

I never understood why crossbow players always default to one hand. This is my favorite build for crossbow. It's great at melee and your shot ain't bad but if you want to focus more on shooting then you might want to put more of that proficiency into crossbow and less into polearm.
Strength: 21
Agility: 24
Hit points: 62
Skills to attributes: 10
Ironflesh: 3
Power Strike: 7
Shield: 0
Athletics: 8
Riding: 0
Horse Archery: 0
Power Draw: 0
Power Throw: 0
Weapon Master: 8
One Handed: 21
Two Handed: 21
Polearm: 140
Archery: 1
Crossbow: 130
Throwing: 1

This is my current xbow build. Able to use a 2 slot polearm and 2 slot heavy xbow, and 0 slot bolts, and still be effective
Strength:21
Agility:24
Polearm:160
Crossbow:100
Weapon Master:8
Athletics:8
Riding:0
Iron Flesh:3
Shield:0
Horse Archery:0
Power Strike:7
Power Draw:0
Power Throw:0

I'm level 34 right now, will be doing this when I hit 35 (and probably retiring at 36):
15 Strength
30 Agility
5 Power Strike
1 Ironflesh (hey I had to put the leftover point somewhere)
10 Weapons Master
10 Athletics
137 1H WPF
174 xbow WPF
You can't use an arbalest. You can't use heavier armor. You can't use certain 1H weapons. But you CAN knife fight like a motherfucker. With daggers and similar weapons you NEED high athletics; your footwork has to make up for the incredibly short reach. You could go for higher str and have any 1 slot weapon you want, but I really enjoy fighting with a dagger. You can (and sometimes have to) run circles around your more heavily armed/armored opponent. You can't block. You can only dodge with footwork. A single hit can be enough to kill you.
It's a lot of fun if you get the hang of it.

enjoy the spiked club with the xbow build, 5 ps is quite shit to hit though, but youll do good damage because of speed bonus I hope

With +3 dagger and +3 knife I almost never glance, even against plate. I only have ~120 wpf now since I'm not level 35 yet. On the other hand, the +3 sickle glances all the time (swings are pierce damage now, too). Maybe the really short weapon length or the 110+ speed on daggers makes them glance less...?
