Title: Moonshines Road to War
Post by: Doom_Carrot on June 10, 2015, 06:03:57 am
Last night, less then 15 minutes after a fief transfer, the rogue moonshine attacked the village of new dashbigha. I therefore declare the Empire of Palagor an enemy of the bootleggers, and if new dashbigha should fall, I will exhaust every resource in an attempt to reclaim it, and I shall not agree upon any peace terms until the criminal is stopped. I humbly ask all to join the fight against him to end this "war" before it begins.

Ah, Doom_Carrot, the HCE's newest Vassal.

On the one hand, he calls for the uprising against the chadzians.  His very own hand!  Less than 13 days have passed, where you had written...

http://forum.melee.org/diplomacy/chadzian-empire-is-taking-over-the-world/msg1141047/#msg1141047

An olive branch had been offered to you.  Many had stepped forward to help you learn the ways of a noble.  Many had stepped up, recognizing your passion... we wished to stoke the fire...  but instead, you wish to drink from their cups, and help with their fields.  And for what?  A fief?  I had offered you New Tash Kalun... but that wasn't good enough.

You DO realize the table scraps they were giving you?  You DO realize their plan?  They knew I'd be ripping through the Steppes, setting their villages ablaze with every mile my army marched...  and so they thought, let's throw the lad a carrot, and see if he dances.

And dance you shall.

You even rejoiced at the comments King James made about 'shitpuppets.'  Puppets sit on strings, and I wonder, do you even feel the ones that bind you?  Who pulls your strings Doom_Carrot?

Tis nought the fief that I wish to have.... tis the statement.  The Steppes are no place for chadzians.

Actually Moonshine, I had no clue what your plans were and to be honest I dont really give a shit. He was a new player who was showing an obvious interest in the game so I offered him one of my many fiefs, and I have way too many. I asked literally nothing in return. He owes nothing to me(since it was my fief), or the HCE. You can spin all your tales all you want that wont make them true.

Wait, you mean you don't know where I'm going to attack and when?  I should be shocked by this?

And Tristan, its not really my tale.  It's his.  If he's fabricating the bit about the alliance, well, then he's reaping what he has sewn.  I can always send you the screenshots.  ;-)

If this shall go to war, you can expect the HCE to back me up. I guess you could call it.... A pact? a... truce thing? I do remember telling you we were allied, but I guess thats not exactly the right word for it? I am not supplying the HCE with any recources, so its not exactly an alliance, but I digress...

Anyways, I do not have any reason to believe they were handing me Dashbigha in an attempt to have me wiped out. I am surrounded by the HCEs enemies, but I am not the HCE. My tangling relations with the HCE  because they gave me land doesn't necessarily give the LL or Berserks right to attack me. Although then again what right do you need for war...

Doom_Carrot, your passion and... willingness to play this game has stirred my soul.

Should things go badly for you, you may always find a home in the city of Uxhaul, from there you can find shelter and the strength to regrow. I cannot give you a fief, but I would happily provide the means for you to take *any* fief.

Thank you, If things go very badly on multiple levels from here on, I might need somewhere to gather my strength for a while.  :)

Tristan was just temporarily minding our village, to transfer this fief to anyone who is not a direct LL ally would just be transferring the temporary status. Anyone who was not a direct ally but thought this was anything but temporary would be deemed as declaring war on LL and will feel the cold hard steel of our war machine.

Nighttime settings are generally best set for when you are at work or in class. Otherwise people will exploit that oppurtunity and attack at a time where you indefinitely will not make it. Whereas you could just wake up early or go to sleep late for a battle at that time. That is just my opinion

Also you are lucky that Corvo was able to get into contact with James last night otherwise you would have lost all of your gear from no one showing up on the attacking side. You were in the duel server seconds before the battle started saying you couldn't make it and to just let the fief transfer. That would not have happened just so you know in the future.

Just out of curiosity are you Na or Eu? I was talking to James and he thought you were European and I thought you were in the Americas.

Well, going to bed late is out of the question sometimes... Cause some days I have to wake up extremely early.

And yeah last night was kinda hilarious lol, sorry about that. I really had to go like RIGHT then and I didn't look at the time and it literally started a few seconds after I left.

And I'm NA based, but I play on whatever server is populated, because my ping isn't too outrageous on EU. And because EU players don't all make idiot builds and troll people all day...

While nothing has been passed through the senate, I am sure the HCE will take steps to ensure Palagor's independence. And this will be done without conditions, just our empire doing our bit to prevent smaller factions from being crushed by their more powerful neighbours.

To be fair, the Berserks declared war on HCE (right?) They also ended up defeating themselves when they were gear bugged and had to tk each other wasting about 500 tickets and losing the army they had. I think had they not been gear bugged the would have taken that castle and things would be different right now. Not by much but they would have had a solid castle to hold onto at the very least.

Oh yeah, mistakes were definitely made. But after that failed battle HCE did proceed to wipe them off the map by attacking them five times, ensuring any member that crossed their path went to EU. That's some total war-level massacring.

Yeah I remember that battle it was terrible.

Not a good way to start crpg. Now that I think of it I'm surprised I didn't just leave this mod on day 1  because of that

Well Bryggan if that is what you really want to achieve then I would suggest giving him a fief in the desert, not a fief that your clan temp owns in the middle of enemy territory. A fief owned  from a failed  war where all HCE managed to do was take LL's weakest 3 villages, in which this one was unarmed.

Which is why it was fair to take their only fief and attack all the wounded parties mid-transit to deliberately send them to EU.

On an unrelated note WHY DOES NOONE PLAY STRATEGUS ERMAGAHD

First, to send a message.  Second, I dunno!!!!

Actually HCE gave Lumetta/gggdog1 gear+silver when they came back. They decided to turn on us and declare total war on us, where Lumetta stated he woulds top at literally nothing to take us out. I feel like in the light of that our moves were totally justifiable.

For the record the Berserkers had two fiefs at that time.

I also want to make it clear that I'm not defending HCE or condoning their actions. I don't have much of a say in what they do or how they do it. I do voice my opinion quite often and usually irreitate james. I occasionally get banned from their ts as well.

They attacked Albus. If the HCE doesn't show up to defend its members what kind of alliance would it be... As Albus would fight for any other member of HCE so we must fight for him to secure his lands.

The Berserks attacked us, we were perfectly content being trade partners.

When I started strat 5, it was just me and Dirk, and we were noobs.  We conquered New Shulus, but fearing our powerful neighbours we offered vassalage to Acre.  And they accepted, and gave us protection, but told us to give New Shulus to Fenris.  We complied, knowing they were much more powerful and naively assuming they would crush us.

The point is we attacked an AI fief, and, perhaps foolishly, gave it up.  But we did not attack Acre, or the Squids, or G-Force when we were looking for a start (tho we did later, and it was great fun).  The point is, you do not attack a big faction and expect to get away with it.  The Berserks did.  And they didn't.

So, while I obviously admire the 'small starters', we do ask you to use your brains.  When you don't have force, use diplomacy.  If you attack a larger enemy, they will kill you.  To not do so is a sign of weakness.

So, until I hear the berserks formally surrender, I guess we will attack them and send them to Europe on sight.  Should they surrender, we won't ask conditions.  We will not ask for payments in silver, or insist they give up lands.  Just a simple end to war.

I saw this on the webpage and though NA strat had died the same gruesome death that EU strat did:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Then I entered NA3 to see if anything would come of it. When joining it said a strat battle was in progress, and upon my entering the purple text that said "Battle is now starting!" appeared. After a minute or so, the battle ended as all no-shows do. Rumor is that EU strat died cuz it was left in this purgatory state for too long as no-show battles don't seem to auto-resolve anymore (unless someone, even a spectator, joins the server). Do your part, strat-fans, if you see a fight that wil likely be a no-show and got nothing better to do, join NA3 before its too late!

I remember fighting a lot back then.  First taking Slekzh castle from the AI, then straight down to G-Force to fight them.  Dirk got some nice victories, then I got cocky and got my ass kicked.  Then we rebuilt and fought the squids and once again had some nice and not-so nice fights.  It was quicker to build up back then, cuz mail shirts were considered uber-gear.

Also this was pre-gay two hand stab and ridiculous team balance, so we got ticks a lot faster too.

The doom carrot seethed. He paced back and forth along the length of the war table laid in front of him. It was after midnight, and his head had not yet even touched the pillow. Frustration, exhaustion, and defeat were etched along the creases of his frown.
"sir?" The door opened, and a soldier peeked his head in. "HCE reinforcemnts have arrived, led by Bryggan the Emperor, Tristan of Ezroth, And James of Acre."
"About fucking time," the doom carrot replied. Looking at the table, he moved 3 pieces across the board. "Any other reports, soldier?" He asked.
The soldier winced. He knew now was a bad time to cross his commander, but he had to tell the truth. "Yes-yes sir. The rogue bootleggers have gained a massive amount of reinforcements within the last few hours. We also have word that he has hired foreign mercenaries to help bolster his army. We are unable to get supplies through their lines. The soldier hesitated. "We are surrounded, and outnumbered four to one" he finally said bluntly.
The doom carrot nodded. He had expected the worst. He added more pieces to the map, moving them into position around Dashbigha. The situation looked futile from afar. Four lone pieces surrounded by a dozen.
"We won't defeat them," he said, "but we will give the fuckers whatever we got." He glanced up from the map to the soldier. "You may leave now," he stated.
The door gently closed, and the doom carrot was once again left in the room alone. He collapsed backwards onto a chair, staring at the map through solemn eyes. The rogues would attack in a matter of hours, and his army had little more to fight with then pitchforks and shields. He had hoped that the rogues would have seen the precedent they were setting for future distrust and hatred between their peoples, but it was to no avail. The bootlegger's reckless fury rampaged across the countryside nonetheless, burning, pillaging, looting everyone in their path.
He sighed. "And so it begins," he whispered.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The curved blade arched through the morning air; the morning air filled with the sounds of a hundred clashing swords. Screams echoed from every corner of the village as the battle raged. Finally, a short blade clashed against the cold steel of the flying sword. Both blades screamed their metallic protests as metal grinded against metal.
The doom carrot held his blade against his opponent. Their eyes locked for a second, and the doom carrot saw the sheer ferocity and hatred in the older man's eyes. This was a battle for survival. Snapping out of his defence, the doom carrot slammed his attacker in the face with his shield, and the man stumbled backwards, almost falling. The mercenary had little time to recover before the doom carrot's blade came at his head. The man blocked the attack, but was met with a serious of furious, deadly hacks and slashes from the doom carrot. Finally, seeing a weakening of his opponent's left stance, and, thrusting into the gap, the doom carrot sliced open his opponent's torso. The man collapsed to his knees, holding a hand against his dismembered entrails, but was put out of his misery by a deft swing to the neck, cleanly executing him.
The doom carrot kicked the dead man's corpse away and glanced around. It was utter chaos. His men were being massacred by the dozens, and there was nothing he could do.
"FUCK!" he screamed. "FUCK IT! FALL THE FUCK BACK!" It was obvious that his men did not stand a chance.
Almost immediately, the emperial ranks began to break. Men spun around, fleeing the enemy. The doom carrot watched helplessly. Those who bravely refused the order, instead protecting their homes and families were cut down without mercy. Suddenly, a hand clasped on his shoulder. Spinning around, the doom carrot was met with Tristan's bloodied face.
"We need to get out of here!" He yelled, his voice coarse from shouting curses and orders.
"No, we need to help these people escape!" The doom carrot seethed back, pushing him away.
"They are already dead!" Tristan screamed, "We are about to get overrun from the Forest! My men can't hold their lines anymore!" He begged, trying to reason with the stubborn commander.
The doom carrot looked East, towards the sight of another battle. The forest's edge was filled with the corpses of emperial soldiers. Suddenly, hordes of cavalry and footmen came screaming out the forest, slaughtering anything that moved in their bloody charge towards the village. The lines had broken. The battle was lost.
"My lords!" a familiar voice shouted behind them. Tristan and the doom carrot spun around. It was Bryggan And James of Acre. Two riderless horses trailed behind them, their coats shining with the greasy blood of their previous masters. "Climb on, we have to leave!" Bryggan screamed, desperate.
Without so much as a second thought, they climbed into the saddles, and turned the horses south. "Doom, you will come with me, I'll get you to safety" James said, still keeping his cool in the heat of battle. "Bryggan, you and Tristan must get back and gather reinforcements, understand?" Bryggan and Tristan nodded simaltaneously, before immediately turning their horses and galloping away.
The doom carrot glanced back at Dashbigha. He heard the final screams of his last men before cheers of victory. He had seen enough. He would kill them all. He turned his horse south, and, following james, fled.
