About us

Kievan Rus is a clan based off of the historical 'Empire' of united Eastern Slavic tribes which lasted 882AD – 1240AD. However, our clan represents the Christian period of Kievan Rus which is 980AD - 1240AD

The aim of the clan is historical accuracy while keeping a relaxed attitude. We use armor & weapon restrictions. But there are many choices of armory within the restrictions to choose from.

When you apply send me a personal message on the site and introduce yourself so that I know you can communicate. Something like "Hey, I applied. I'm a two hander".

You may apply for the clan regardless of your level, skill or ethnicity.

Historical information

Kievan Rus' was a loose federation of East Slavic tribes in Europe from the late 9th to the mid-13th century, under the reign of the Rurik dynasty. The modern peoples of Belarus, Ukraine, and Russia all claim Kievan Rus' as their cultural ancestors.

Kievan Rus' begins with the rule (882–912) of Prince Oleg, who extended his control from Novgorod south along the Dnieper river valley in order to protect trade from Khazar incursions from the east and moved his capital to the more strategic Kiev. After changing the capital to Kiev, it was known as Kievan Rus (Kievskaya Rus)

Vladimir the Great (980–1015) introduced Christianity with his own baptism and, by decree, that of all the inhabitants of Kiev and beyond.

Banner explanation

The banner is customly made by me (Zvonimir) and incorporates the main symbol used by the Rurikovich dynasty, the Tryzub. This symbol was printed on Kievan Rus' coins, churches & many many other places including in Kiev itself. The Tryzub supposedly represents an eagle flying downards. Somewhat similar to the Norse eagle.

The other banner (with the icon of Jesus Christ) is/was the war banner of the Rus. The letters read "IS HS NI KA" which means "Jesus Christ Brings Victory"

The banner is subject to change. If someone has better suggestions or skills.

Armor & Weapon restrictions
ALL Crossbows, Arrows & Bolts are allowed. Siege Equipment is allowed. You don't have to follow any restrictions if you are under level 15.
ALL horses except Eastern Warhorse, Mamluk Horse, Plated Charger are allowed. Heraldic horses are allowed.
Breaking the rule of restricted armor will get you a warning. If you continue, you will be kicked from the clan.

These are only tips, recommendations & for inspiration. They are not guidelines you must follow. I just showed some very compatible & good looking armors.
The weapon's you decide to use with any of these is of course, up to you.

I have put 42+ armor pieces & weaponry in the armory that I don't use, and they are all for our theme with 0 fee. So whoever joins us doesn't need to even buy armor. You can just borrow whatever you want and the only thing you have to pay is upkeep yourself.
