Title: Question to game devs, game programmers, level designers, etc...
Post by: Alec on March 13, 2015, 05:42:08 pm
Hello

My question is: how long would it aproximately take to make a simple platformer with 2-3 levels in Unreal Engine 4?
Let me give you some background info first.

I got around 25 people of which 20 with beginner C# skills and 5 with advanced C#/C++ skills and about 4 of them can create 3D models.
We would like to create a simple, decent looking 3rd person platformer with 2-3 levels and a highscore system using Unreal Engine 4 and a combination of C#/C++.
Now the problem is that we got about 2 months. So let's say we spend about 20 hours a week coding, is this possible? How long do you estimate it would take?

Thanks in advance
Alec

Coding means nothing if you don't have some knowledge of the engine.

Don't wait around and hesitate. Just do it! For sure you will all learn a lot and get to sweat a bit. Perhaps it will be great, perhaps crap, but you will finish something.

Making a box that you can jump on platforms with, will probably take less than a day. Then u take it from there :)  Also.. more coders are not necessarily better. Like more cooks sometimes..  This sounds like a student project, but I'd advice you to take it seriously. Might get painful, but there are tons of stuff to learn from that too.

It's not like there exists forums dedicated to game development on the internet.

Not sure if serious...

Asking on reddit can help too, if you are lucky that people who have knowledge are there to help you. But maybe it is the best to ask here: https://forums.unrealengine.com

Edit: Man, I am stupid. It was sarcasm. Dumb Leshma strikes again (like there is any other).
