Title: Favorite moving picture contest
Post by: Golem on February 21, 2015, 04:36:57 am
I am talking about films, do not post gifs.
Example:
Quote
Time Bandits. Was pretty decent.
Watched: 1x
Rules:
If you want to participate add a post. You can add multiple posts.
If you're browsing through the posts and you come across a film you don't like give the post -1.
Be honest. Post only your favorite film, don't try to win just by posting shitty movies. Also don't lie about the number of times you watched it.
If you decided to watch a movie, but you couldn't last it through this counts only if it was your last attempt.
The post with the shittiest movie(most negative score) and biggest multiplier wins.

Prize: TBA

My favourite spaghetti western (worth watching for the last line and Bacalov's soundtrack).

The first two are great coming of age films. Everyone should watch them as a young adult.

Noi the Albino. It's slice-of-life story set in an isolated, tiny town in Iceland. I watch this at least once every winter. The main character is trapped in this little town with no future. It really drags you into the setting. You feel like you're there too.

I can't summarize this one no matter how hard I try. The trailer should speak for itself.

Primer is my favorite time travel story ever. No movie or book compares. Basically some guys accidentally build a time machine in their garage. They start using it and fuck things up royally. Project Almanac came out recently and has pretty much the same plot. It doesn't compare to Primer, though.

One more - a horror movie. They usually get boring for me before the end of the film, but VHS isn't one long plot. It's like a collection of short stories. Just as you are recovering from the last 2SPOOKY shit, the next clip hits the high point and you are rocketed back up to fight or flight response.

I lied, two more. The Thief and the Cobbler is an animated film on par with (if not better than) films from the second golden age of Disney (Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast). Production started in 1964, but the film was cursed. Setback after setback kept the film from getting finished. It was released in the 90s, but even at that point it wasn't finished. Hardly anyone knows it exists.  Even in its incomplete state the movie is one of the best I've ever seen. Watch it, share it with friends.

The Secret of Kells is animated as well. Takes place in 800s Ireland. The story revolves around the book of Kells, an actual illuminated manuscript of the Bible. There's also pagan forest spirits and evil vikings. Good shit.
