Meh, most TV shows are mediocre pieces of crap, filled with advertisement breaks.

You do realise how expensive doing proper TV shows is right? The profit to be had in TV is complete shite compared to movies, not to mention the actors are generally less pleased being in TV than movies and thats not only because of the fame, its lot more stressful and less fufilling in many ways. The advertisement breaks are okay, if you put it like that. Its just better to do 3 movies than 3 seasons.

Tbh a lot of decent shows these past years have saved TV. TV shows have always been considered as second grade garbage, but now the tides are shifting. They are really good. I also suspect this will make the movie industry work harder aswell.

Meh, most TV shows are mediocre pieces of crap, filled with advertisement breaks.

Very, very outdated description.

This changed, currently TV series start to have the upper hand, despite having a lower budget, they got more room to fill with their stories.

And this is coming from more of a movie person, who doesn't like the series format, so there's that.

Meh, most TV shows are mediocre pieces of crap, filled with advertisement breaks.

Why don't you just watch the good ones then  :|

Vikings has somewhat interesting atmosphere, but the plot isn't catchy at all. Just back and forth between England and Denmark, new challenger appears, Ragnar wins. Also watching Danish 1864 about Danish-Prussian war, which is decent.

Apart from those, nothing great going on atm, just waiting for the next seasons of GoT, Silicon Valley and hoping that True Detective can maintain it's high level. Had been watching Broadwalk Empire and True Blood for years, but they had their last seasons. (Which was good for True Blood, it just started to suck more and more) Also re-watched Sopranos and The Wire last year, and those are still the best series made.

E. want to say more about True Blood, oh boy how the last season sucked when I think about it again. In last three or four  episodes, absolutely nothing happened. It was just waiting for that shit to end, and all the chars only cried or were stupid, Sookie most of all. I guess they just run out of money or something, but they could have just skipped the whole season, it was rather pointless. Ugh.

Second Better Call Saul. Looking forward to starting Season 3 of Vikings.

Last Week, Tonight is excellent if you're American. Not sure how it is for everyone else.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine remains solid. Awaiting Broad City, True Detective, and Silicon Valley.

Galavant is ren-faire musical drivel that I wouldn't recommend to anyone, but is weirdly calming to me. Some weird nostalgia, there.

An Idiot Abroad is my go-to show when I have an hour.

Veep is my favorite tv show centered on a fictional political figure.

Orange is the New Black's second season is lacking something. I don't know what, but it's not as entertaining as the first.

I feel obligated to watch all the super-hero stuff (comics dominate a portion of my life) but none of them really interest me. I'm hoping the Netflix Marvel line will be good.

Currently following the US version of Shameless. I am enjoying it a lot. But I really can't understand how on earth people approve of their young and teenager children being exposed to so much graphic and sometimes somewhat pervy forms of sexuality. I mean the children acting in the show.

Stargate Universe. Just finished season 1. Pretty decent but the drama:sci-fi ratio is kinda bad, but not like I have much choice for sci fi. Some quite good sci fi episodes but then they add loads of drama filler

Also finished Top Boy season 1 (uk netflix..can get it with proxy). Pretty good show kind of like The Wire but everyone says "innit" every sentence and there are no cops. Not as good as the Wire but pretty decent

- Better Call Saul (yes it's good)
- Top Gear UK (still going stronk)
- Parks & Recreation
- Doctor Who (when there's nothing else to watch)
- GoT
- Vikings
- Supernatural (did you really think this wasn't coming?) 10th season and goddamit this current story arch is epic. Latest episode was so good I had to watch it twice. Very showdown, much Cain, such dark, wow.

Rewatching series 1 atm, it's so good!

First 3 or 4 seasons were my favourite, it becomes quite dull later, skipped most of parts in season 7 and 8.

At least it was entertaining. Now they just talk then a bit walking and talking again. Zombies are routine, they stab them without any emotions and then talking again. And again. One more time.

Here this guy goes over it (a bit too much if you ask me) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DDbi7P93Np8 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DDbi7P93Np8)
It might be that, I'm a big fan of the comics and I dont think the show does the comic justice.

Anyways my top shows are:

-Rick and Morty (best animated show of television right now, hands down)
-Silicon Valley (best show on HBO sorry GoT)
-Halt and Catch Fire
-Game of Thrones
-Penny Dreadful
-Archer
-Bob's Burgers
-Venture Bros (Brock is bae)
-Parks and rekt
-Top Gear

Watched the two first episodes of The Code on Arte this Friday. Quite a good start. Rectify and Lillyhammer also aired recently on Arte. This channel is probably the best French-speaking TV channel ever, and the German equivalent is no doubt very good as well.

Among the other things I watch on TV there's House of Cards and Downton Abbey (gay I know).

You thought Cain wouldn't be back? I knew that sooner or later he will be back. Timothy Omundson played the role so well that in my mind there was no doubt (and in s9e11 Cain even hints he'll be back when he says Dean has to use the first blade on him when he calls). I hope you don't consider that as spoiler :D. Nah it's not a spoiler if you paid attention when you watched the first Cain episode...

Don't get too hyped, but if you thought Omundson's first SPN episode was good, the second one is going to be even better! I'm gonna say it's the best episode since season 5 finale. For me, right now it is.

Just go ahead and watch the damn movie. Stargate tv series is sin. Fuck it all these ¨fly around in space meeting alien races¨ tv sreries are...

The only series ill admit I like is the game of thrones, and that goes just because I like its style. Also, imo, dead walking game is better than the series.

Would be a good series but I hate the infantile Marvel/DC superhero morality, "let's work hard to beat up bad guys, oh yay it worked" and in the next season they're back up again and the last episode was pointless. Not to mention the fact that those people then go on to kill others. Makes it hard to care about the plot. Same reason Batman is gay. Also the early DD episodes repeat the same formula with a long-ass kungfu style fight at the end where DD prevails by the skin of his teeth. I'd also prefer if the action was more like Bourne (or the Batman trilogy), less like a Jackie Chan movie.

At least the fights seem realistic unlike batman and the likes.

Daredevil gets hurt and he starts getting tired, enemies don't go down in 1 hit but keep on rising from the floor.

That makes the combat 100x better than batman will ever be.

What, it's the exact opposite. Real fights don't last five minutes with people shrugging off damage and coming at you again and again. They take closer to seconds -- especially if even one of the participants knows what he's doing (as opposed to two drunks hug fighting).

Started True Detective Season 2. Don't like it. Only somewhat interesting character is Vince Vaughn's, rest are cliché garbage (alcoholic bad cop cuz tuff lyfe).

Also, seen Mr. Robot pilot. Can't wait for more. Flashes of brilliance in that pilot, could be on par with True Detective Season One and Breaking Bad, if they keep the bar high.

If you haven't watched it I can recommend 'OZ' (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oz_%28TV_series%29), which HBO released a few years prior, 'the first one-hour dramatic television series to be produced by the premium cable network HBO'. The first I saw from HBO and still one of the best.

..

But lyfe is tuff. I know you cant sense it, but the years do take an inevitable toll on all of us. An alcoholic bad cop is more of an actual relatable thing, than just a cliche really. But the characters were basically walking cliches yeah.

Watched the second episode aswell. Overall I agree thou. But it wasnt the cliches that killed it imo. Its the insane amount of artsy bullcrap scenes to fill the timer and close to 0 actual things happening. The plot is kinda moving in a very obvious paste and speeds up a bit whenever the shows creators feel like that's enough of artsy scenes and landscape shots for now. First season was better, I can already see it.

Been watching the first season of "halt and catch fire" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2543312/ (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2543312/)

It is a nice theme , early days of personal computers. Takes you thru the early years in a fictional , but somewhat realistic historical setting.

Ofc mixed in some of the always present personal conflicts, love dramas and the usual nonsense :D

Misanthropic autist who wants to watch the world burn, I can see why Leshma likes the show XD. The whole thing is a wetdream for anti-capitalist anarchists. Ooohhh, we think Steve Jobs was a "great man" (we do?) even though he built shit in China ominous music, gasp how tawdry and vile. Seriously? That's what you're going for in your "humanity is evil" speech?
I like the show so far though. I hope it ends with the total collapse of society and this autistic dweeb briefly realizes what real anarchy means before his inevitable demise, maybe he'll have a more measured sense of humanity's dark side. Guy's only real skill and medium where the world makes sense to him is a fragile, interconnected web of highly advanced machines that exists only as a byproduct of everything he loathes.
Title: Re: TV Shows you're currently watching
Post by: Tibe on July 03, 2015, 07:13:27 am
Whats wrong with the Steve Jobs is crap speech? He just said what came into his mind first in a quick burst of anger and the point was that we all know he didn't really do that much, but we still continue to give him credit for it knowingly because we just are that shit.

I rolled my eyes the most at the "an executive is running Linux" line. GASP! Guys in suits and high places use Linux?!?! Wat iz dis surcery. But overall yeah, good start for the series. But I doubt it can keep us interested for more than 2 seasons. The atmosphere feels alright quite simply because it feels new and fresh in combination with some very good directing and editing. The writing however doesn't really appear anything more than average so far(it occasionally even feels less than average imo).

Bump.

True Detective got slightly better, it seems more focus on story and less on personal problems of main characters. Just all around more happening but still not quite there, imo. Then again only 1 episode left so I hope they have something major in store for the end, otherwise it's 'meh' at best.

Mr. Robot though, really liking it. I feel like it's getting better from episode to episode. A lot of suspense in every episode, helped by pretty awesome soundtrack. For example in the last episode:
