Shitty episode imo. It ended as it started , nothing happened. They re ruining shows with good potentials by making episodes like brazilian drama shows , it really frustrates me. Same thing happened in Battlestar Galactica too ; " Cylons killed 10 billion people and hunting us? sure sure but adama and roslin s drama is better here is an episode about it."

yeah I read comments like this where I usually watch it and decided to wait til next week and watch the 2 at once as this one I hear is setting up the story and next episode.

2nd season starting off better than 1st. Darker theme , less soap opera drama, so far anyway.
Could still be more about looting, naval combat and general buccanerlife.

Wish there were more miniseries produced, the tvseriesformat kills any real chance of a good story.

Check out "Hornblower" , not piracy, but a great naval story.
Several tvmovies, made into a miniseries.

Just found out that the characters in Black Sails are historical based, they re not just random names.

Also completely agree with Torost, the main idea of the show should be naval battles! I like naval battles.

Historically based? Long John Silver and the rest of his crew are characters from famous Stevenson's novel Treasure Island. This show is prequel to that book and numerous films, plays and cartoons based on it.

Actually this show is a combination of historical & fictional characters, all wrapped up in a bundle of........well, quite interesting show material, so far. The newborn craving for imbecile shows doesn't need any "explanations", although this show is not bad at all, considering all the garbage thrown around these days.

Ohhh...took me a while to figure it out. :lol: Are you really that homophobic, that you cant look past that fact anymore? So he likes seamen on his poopdeck, whats the big deal? Tbh it actually even explained things quite well. Didnt see that one coming, but damn did they gave some decent hints about it in the past episodes, if I really think about it. Rather clever hints, might I add.

Naval fights are pretty realistic and exciting at the same time, i give them that. But there are pieces of Brazilian drama, which i cant understand at all.

Yeah they are based on history: in that their names are used. Nothing more. That show is complete crap, 2 actors who can hold their own and a bunch of fucking REALLY bad actors, poor scripts, show historically as accurate as USSR history books.

That's another thing: you can tell the quality of the TV show writers by the amount of sex in it (obviously other things too but its a good measure): Writer has good ideas, solid characters and is a capable writer: he advances the story and puts character filler and exposition neatly slotted into the ongoing events; Writer has too few ideas or lacks the creative ability to create strong leads and a gripping story... oh well we put tits and ass in, or does crappy "3 years earlier" episodes to try to close the holes he has written himself into. BTW, him or herself, bad writing is universal, I just write He by default because I have a penis and that has shaped my use of language over the decades, especially since I grew up speaking a latin language where everything from car to pencil is gendered.

Also stop being so racist you guys, Brazilian dramas are quite staid and down-to-earth for the most part when compared with their surrounding neighbors' dramas. Telenovelas are so fucking retarded I cannot even think when they are on, and TBH if someone I cared about at all watched them I would mount an intervention to try to save whatever grey matter they still have functioning, the poor misguided fuck.

But I watched episode 1 of Black sails and didnt watch any more for a LONG time, it was so obviously going to become one more telenovela, with every bit of action interspersed with jarring angled shots, unclear shots of the dark, bad puns, characters who seem to fluctuate nonstop in their outlook, morality and actions, poor writing, poor acting, and just another STARZ exclusive softporn romcom with the occasional shot of a boat. Watched all of season 1, was proved right, stop following that trash.

But then maybe I'm preaching to the 7th circle of hell here cause I know a lot of you guys enjoyed GoT, and I personally found the books to be such absolute drivel I gave up after number 2.

Im currently watching COMBAT! actually when I have time, sure it's massively dated, but except for the very occasional Lauren and Hardy episodes where they squad is on RnR and gets up to no good, it's action and excitement every episode.

There's some. And yes, it is amusing how all of France apparently looks like Southern California, but hey they were working in a different era and with budgets that today wouldn't even get scripts written. I'm on season 2 and am excited for season 3 when they ACTUALLY GOT SOME COLOUR FILM for their cameras, luxury indeed.

It's not a GREAT show, but almost every episode leaves you happy that the good guys won but sad at the sacrifices they had to make, in men, in their ideals or in their effort to not let anyone else down. Also it's VERY fucking amusing to see the guest stars and guess who it is before the credits, in season 2 they had a VERY young James Caan as a german Sgt. and they had TELLY SAVALLAS WITH FUCKING HAIR! I nearly didn't recognize him with hair it was crazy :D

is this last season any good? i think i stopped watching after the first ep of the latest season. after cap'n flint's buttpirate shenanigans i sort of lost heart, can't quite remember what has irked me more recently about the show

maybe im just REALLY pissed that they made cap'n flint a butt-bombadier.

Yeah it's pretty good, Flint's got everyone gunning for him now. It's sad this is the last season. And aside from that segment where they revealed that buttpirate scenario they haven't really dwelled on it unlike GoT for example.
