Anyone interested in playing TERA?
-
I tried. Its interesting but the ping would rocket up to 500 pretty much every 10 minutes for me. It was apparently a server wide thing. Kind of killed the game for me especially since you could get pvp'd easily outside the cities.
-
What a shame.
-
the game is boring as fuck
-
Got to lvl 54 or something, forced myself through the super boring PvE for way too long and just said "fuck it". And now they raised the level cap to 65 and removed a lot of dungeons n shit iirc.
-
Any better MMOs then? I was looking forward to the combat, but it still hasn't patched, yet.
-
Combat is alright, the problem is with everything else in that game.
-
Like what?
-
like leveling/questing being ungodly boring and grindy
-
Either you're making this up or I'm too early in the game to notice, but after about an hour or so, I'm level 8 and feel like I'm making steady progress through the various landscapes. I don't bother reading the quest dialog, though. Maybe you meant that is boring? Also only grinding that I know off is getting ore and stuff.
-
The first levels are really fast, after that the grind just drags on, you'll find out soon enough. And I was also playing with my brother who's gotten to max level around 15 + times or something, even then it took a long time to get to 50. Granted they have buffed PVE in the aspect that you can discover weapons pieces from mobs that can be made into a powerful weapon. So it is easier than it was in the earlier days but still very boring.

Suggestions for a better mmo? The combat is ok I agree but I know vibe has a list of like 1k mmos.. so what you got in store vibe?

Yeah you're too early in the game to notice. The game starts to really drag later on, you have to kill a lot of mobs to complete quests/level up and you're mostly just repeating the same 3-5 actions over and over and over. Even the fact that it's action combat doesn't help it, or that BAMs are somewhat fun at start. You'll see.

What are you looking for / requirements?

Shit.
Well I guess an mmo with decent action combat but less grind. Would something like archeage fit? Never gave age of wushu a chance either.

Try RIft

I recommend avoiding ArcheAge (it's not action combat anyway), since it's made to rip people off. Age of Wushu isn't really action combat as well, but it does have some sort of active blocking and a rock/paper/scissors system, so it's a bit more actiony than a standard tab target MMO.
DC Universe Online is pretty decent and has an actiony combat, at least it used to when I last played it (I heard they changed the combat some). It didn't feel grindy at all as there's quite some story missions. There's also Dragon Nest that's being praised for having nice action combat, but I seriously disliked the chibi anime characters and the fact that the game is mostly instanced, making it hardly an MMO. In that sense, Vindictus is very similar, but yet again, not really an MMO. I'd say there really isn't that many (if any) good games in regards to action combat MMO.
I'm slightly excited about Black Desert (http://forum.melee.org/and-all-the-other-things-floating-around-out-there/vkmr-black-desert-online/), but it's too early to tell how the game will turn out, only being in Korean Open Beta atm. I should also mention that it'll probably be somewhat grindy, considering the majority of XP comes from grinding mobs and not quests, at least it's like that in Korean version.
-
Yeah, Black Desert looks ubercool atm. Eternal crusade might be good, but it's pay to win so I might not bother with it.

Yeah I was ok with Vindictus's combat but the instances wore on me. I wanted an open world mmo not instances everywhere.
Hmm.. appreciate the suggestions tho. Maybe I'll check out Age of Wushu and see if the blocking system is enough to satisfy.
Try RIft
Yeah I could but isn't rift tab targeting?

I bought Guild Wars 2 recently because it was on sale for $10 and my bro convinced me to get it.
I've not played an MMO past level 20ish and after playing GW2 I'm somewhat convinced that MMO main-stays and general game-design are not for me.
-
GW2 is boring. You'd think that moving while casting and abolishment of trinity would add to the game but it's just a boring combat system.

Try SWTOR. If you like star wars that is.
IMO it feels like a Singleplayer game with multiplayer features. The voice acting is really superb and cool cutscenes. Not your regular ''go to NPC with ! above his head and listen to a monotone boring voice to give you a random kill X amounts of enemies quest''.
-
How limiting are the F2P aspects? I can't see myself dropping money on it and rather see myself getting through KoTOR before that.

Yes, getting rid of specializations and basically having the races and classes boil down to what particle-effects you see seems like a step-back rather than some great innovation.
-
Pretty gey but playable. I don't know much personally since i only played it as a sub even when i came back like a couple of months ago. Worth a try since it's f2p.
-
SWTOR is good for the story, one of the best when it comes to MMOs, and each class has a different one. I played 2 classes to max, was enjoyable. Other than that, not worth it.

U fail.
If one of them wasn't Smuggler u must play it again.
Smuggler for super lolzy comedy
Imperial Agent for dramatic thriller movie experience
Bounty Hunter for epic mandalorian, Boba Fett rapagage experience
Jedi Knight for random heroic story experience
Jedi Consular for boring crap (only rlly sucky 1)
Trooper for some cool action packed experience
Sith Warrior for evil badass shit
And finally Sith Inq for some Sidious unlimited power experience
And Flashpoints (Dungeons) are epic. And the enemies are cool too. But endgame content is meh.
-
Yeah, didn't do Smuggler/Imperial Agent, heard it was great story though, better than the rest.
-
That's pretty sick, brah.
-
Hm, I'd like to be fair, so a note on TERA:
Last time I've leveled/played was in May 2012 (just checked account). I've read a bit about it now and there's been quite some changes to the game since then, including changes like BAM health reduced significantly (reduces killing time, obviously) and adding new leveling weapons called Avatar weapons, which increase damage a lot, which again means even faster killing time - which all contributes to faster leveling speed.
To also add, you can level via Corsairs' Stronghold as well, which is a 20v20 siege like PvP battleground, so you can rest from the mob grind. I'll give this game another go, see if it the path to level cap is any less boring.
-
That's cool, what server will you be playing on?
I was kind of intrigued by the PvP server, but I figure that it would be more of a nuisance without a buddy.

My old chars were migrated to Killian (PvP EU).
-
You're not making new ones, then.

No, I probably will since I want to try a Berserker, but on the same server, since it's the only PvP server in EU.
-
Well let me know what you think Vibe and let me know if you have ping spikes. I liked t but the ping spikes killed the game for me. Might be just an NA thing or it was a temporary problem.. not sure.
-
For me ping spikes occur at about 2 in one hour rate, but originally I thought they were FPS issues.

They occur more often than that for me but I'm NA. Maybe its the server.. maybe its because I'm f2p instead of sub'd. *shrug*
I don't notice ping issues with other games so.. don't think its me. And the ping will jump to 500 or 900 pretty often. Like 5 or 6 times within a 30 minute period. Which is nasty especially when someone decides that's the time to be an outlaw and kill you. Although most of the people that do that are much higher lvl and I have no chance anyway.
-
Also just a little fun info. Korean version of Tera lets you buy some sort of "boost" so you get double the amount of XP. or more IIRC :D
-
Pretty sure you have some XP potions in EU version as well.
