Title: People getting back into Strat
Post by: Bryggan on January 08, 2015, 08:26:54 am
A while back, the 13 Knights were a little disappointed everyone was quitting strat.  We were still enjoying the game, so we dropped our war with the AFK KBW, and decided to war against only people that were active.  We had a lot of success, and long dead AFK people came back and got interested.  This worked.  If you have seen the rosters lately, they are well over the usual 5 per side that we had a month or two ago.

Not only that, but people came back to the strat map everyone that was AFK seemed to rejoin against me.  By getting some good battles going, and reinvigorating Strat with some good RP and avoiding the negative energy of shit posts, I seem to be making more enemies than friends.

Kinda makes me realize why strat died in the first place.

But you are playing, which is good.  But we have some rules.  No abusing night time settings, no ninja rostering, no raids (too much crime for that), and no shit posts, unless they are tongue in cheek and must be at least slightly amusing.

Should anyone break these rules, I will order everyone in my faction to sell all their arms and park their armies in the nearest 100% crime fief.  And we will never sign anyone up for our defense if anyone decides to attack.  We play the game for the game, and people seem to like it.

So sez I,

Bryggan,
High King of the Northern Kingdoms
Commander of the 13 Knights
All Round Great Guy

it's like you learned nothing about what strat is really about, Shitlord Bryggan. SIC SEMPER TYRANNIS

There are four decently sized factions still playing and some individuals. Kingdoms of the North, Wardens of the North, House Stark and The Squids still control large territories. Battles have been really even for the most part and are quite fun. More people slowly getting back into it.

This is in the strat discussion thread because it is up to us to make strat fun.  The devs won't change anything, so we should change ourselves.  And it seems to be working.

Hear, hear, Chesterotab!!!  I agree, death to tyrants!!!  Which is what we are doing.  We are killing all tyrants so their people may live freely under my iron fisted rule.

Finally, someone who gets me!

PS.  If Havelle can triple post, so can I

Come to Curaw.  You'll love it.  Great nightlife, comfortable beds and the girls there are pretty uninhibited.  Beer is a little expensive though, due to supply and demand.  But get over there, and we'll see if we can make you a nice little army for you to strut around with.

Bryggan, you're doing exactly what Chevalier did in the first iteration of our existence, and finding the exact truths of it all as well. Though, you started differently as a gang of mercenaries, 13K, rather than 30 newbies to warband joining cRPG straight out of Napoleonic Wars, and a month later trying to play a war game where we had no clue what we were doing and that there was basically only 2 sides. At least now there's more than just a common enemy for you to rally against.

Good luck. And if you need an extra troop on the field, seek me out. But have horses and lances before you do.

Peasant gear isn't viable anymore. I am truly upset and discouraged.

If you're willing to put together a fun themed battle (ex: ninjas vs. pirates) I'd be willing to give you a buttload of stuff. I've just been hanging around near Malayurg Castle for a while now because I don't really want to bother with the logistics, especially if it could end up being a no-show. 800 troops, over a million silver, and gear for 1500-2000 that could be sold for a large sum. I'm also willing to spec Malayurg Castle and Tash Kulun for whatever equipment that you want to buy. Bring a friend and give him your troops to avoid crime, do your buying/selling then transfer back and attack during prime time. That sort of thing.

You should give your forces to James so he can retake Acre.

Legs,

A lot of +0 Ninja gear at Ayn  Assuadi.  Some of it has been loomed, most of it not.  0 is better than none.

Also, for those looking to get back into Strat... adding onto Bryggan's post...

Declare your wars.  Rather than seeing the 13k, or any of the active factions, leave because a battle got ninja'd... make sure you declare your wars.  I'd say give the faction 24 hour notice.  Don't get all your armies in position right outside a fief, declare war, and then hit the attack button.  By giving a grace window, you allow 'tension' and 'hostility' to grow between the two factions.  There's also a chance the faction, afk or not, might be able to get a call out for aid.  Everyone would have 'scouts' out there anyway.  A farmer, planting his field sees an army of 200 marching east... toward's his home, or some such.

And in the event of an undeclared war, why not have all active factions sign up for the defense?  Again, even if it's for an afk fief owner...  1)  The merc pool is reduced for the offender.  2)  The defender may be able to muster a defense merc wise, and become reengaged in strat 3)  You truly penalize the offender by costing them an army.

Oh, and let's also say this... The defending party can, and should do a ninja upon the attacker.  Why?  The attacking party wasn't really looking for a fair fight now were they?  ;-)  You want to play by the rules of engagement, play by them, and flourish for all.  Just a thought.
