Since this engine is the main feature of this game, I'm not sure it's a good idea.

That isn't called skepticism, that's called being ignorant. Your suggestion is more worthy of skepticism than anything the devs are doing.

Nah, doesn't strike me as very wise either. I imagine the engine grows with the game development so you'd want both to be under your control.
