Title: Returning player in need of a good hoplite build
Post by: Weedmaster on December 28, 2014, 05:30:36 pm
Hey guys,

I'm a returning player looking for a level 34 hoplite build. I'd mostly be playing on EU_1. I'm also wondering what gear to use.  Provided I have the starter heirlooms (inc. +3 Lordly Tunic over Mail, +3 War Spear), and +2 heavy gauntlets and a +2 ashwood pike, what should I loom? Should I trade or use the heirloom exchange?

Thanks in advance!

High strenght would be useful, hoplite is mainly support class, and with 7 or 8 ps, you will hit like a truck, even with hits you would normally expect to glance. If you will go fr high strenght, try to invest 7 points in power throw. I know it sounds a bit insane, but you can practically RP leonidas, and be fairly competitive at the same time, due to the recent level patch.

One thing to add: I'm not looking to have a 1h in reserve, if I have to solo I just kick and poke. I'll definitely try 7 PT with some character at least. Regarding 7 PS, I'm reminded of byz_teeth's 21/21 with 3 shield skill. What armor should I eventually loom with these builds?

That really depends on either weight, or aesthetics. I would bend to the direction of something heavier though, I mean, with strenght required to dish in 7 PT, you wont run that fast anytime soon. The fact that you seek to abolish 1H backup means you will have more points to divide between other areas of weapon proficency, although you may regret it later. My build is not very good 1 vs 1 wise.

Tried 30/15, it's good with 10 PS, but you're moving a bit slowly. But if you get 8PS, you're fine anyway. Just go 24/21.

I think I'll go with 24/21 for this gen. I was told on EU_1 that hoplites need all the WPF they can get. I'm a little worried about 4 WM, but I can invest it all in polearms. The blue tunic over mail may be too light, but it suits my playstyle, so I'm looming the ashwood pike.

pre patch I used to play hoplite with only 4WM and it was fine since hoplite is only a supportive class, the athletics will make up for it. 24/21 would be my choice of builds.

24/21 or 18/24 are good builds for a support hoplite
The ashwood pike, imo is the best hopliting weapon; you'll have lots of fun with it.
