Title: Did my MOBO just die?
Post by: Ubereem on November 22, 2014, 10:35:20 pm
Was playing Crpg like 1 hour ago and my screen goes black with no signal. Could not get signal so I changed gpu to other pci slot and it works. Is my mobo dying or what? Can I use this other pci slot? It's way at the bottom and my gpu looks like it has zero room to breath. What you guys think?

Change back to the other slot and see if it works again.

That sounds like overheating to me.

Vacuum out your vents/fans to get rid of any built up dust.

It's also worth checking your CPU's heatsink for dust caught between the fins.

I'd be surprised if this doesn't fix your problem.

I can't really imagine the PCI-E slot to stop working while everything else is still working fine.

Do what Johammeth said. Also check if the fans are all working after cleaning them.

I've had my PCI-E slot die one time and I think it was due to a bad overclock from my part.

Well, that would be a (more or less) external factor.
Since he does not know what might have caused it, I assume he did not fool around in his bios or gpu driver settings.

Cause if he did play with things he does not know what they do, then well... :D

Like Johamburger said, it is probably an overheating issue. It might be your graphics card or your processor. Clear dust off the mobo/gpu and vents on the case.

If the motherboard died, you wouldn't be able to use the computer anymore. If it shits the bed when you launch a game, it's probably the GPU or CPU reaching a critical temperature and going "nope."
