Title: Physical age related to character age
Post by: Largg on May 22, 2011, 03:22:38 pm
Hey,

I had an idea with the level announcements including the character's conceptual age, ie. character growing older with higher levels. It would be great if this level-related age could be associated with physical age. For example new level 1 character would represent the leftmost position of the age bar where as level 35(?) the rightmost position. This would be a way to really distinguish higher lever characters instead of looking hints like does he run fast or is he wearing a plate. Also these sneaky fake peasants could be spotted right away with their white beard and wrinkled faces  :). The aging would bring some respect to characters, think about young peasants squirming in fear as an old knight steps around the corner.

Slightly dubious if this is really implementable but I'd love it.

Interesting... however, everybody would be running around as an old man pretty much. Plus, people don't like their character's appearance to be changed without them wanting it to...

.. and after level 30, you start to lose agi and strength with every level, yay! On a more serious note, I think it would be nice, but some will probably protest.

The first time I played cRPG and I saw the age depending on the level of a char, I thought it was exactly like this.

And...YES...I ran from old guys and attacked younger looking guys with much more courage...

Oh, please no. I love the fact that many people have distinct faces that I can recognize on the battlefield or on duel servers. And I love my characters face, he's meant to look old. And I believe atleast some recognize his face, and I like it that way.

Making your own character is what cRPG is about.

Get rid of Age altogether. It was brought in around September 2010 - before there was upkeep and slow progression after level 30 - just to encourage people to retire rather to grinding to level 40. There's no real reason to keep it now.

Aye but you spend hardly any time as low lvl. Most time spent as an old granny basher. Everyone will be old rofl.

I'm level 32 and still only age 47, it's not like I'm an old coot yet.  I don't see the harm to it besides wounding the "forever young" folks' pride.  It may also add a nice touch of realism to have HarmlessPeasant and the like actually look like they didn't climb out of the womb with a sword in hand.
