I want to ask whether it's possible to implement: ability to make up, down and right block in two ways. By default, the right mouse button and blocking by shield, or to choose - manually by 1h - switch between modes by extra key - mouse3 maybe
For right-handers left block for obvious reasons, always shield. Blocking multihits by shield and 1h weapon at the same time as an option + left-hander and right-hander mode - shield on the right / left
Possible, impossible, useless - what's your opinion?

I'm not entirely sure I grasped what you mean, could you try to explain again?

I think he means he wants to block with his sword and his shield while his shield is up, ex: if he blocks right while holding his shield, his sword will block the incoming attack.

Blocking two ways: if you only have a shield for ranged can you block with your sword vs infantry to conserve its HP.
-
Maybe with a certain damage reduction system. Sth like if you block in the correct direction the damage is negated for 100%, and if you dont say an 85% damage reduction, still significant. If its full damage upon missing a block a shield will become a pointless feature, only usefull vs ranged.
Shields could also get more dureable with this system I think, but there will be no insane turtling. Possibly a heavy blocking stance that negates 95% damage could be added aswell by pressing X, in combination with a minor debuff to walking speed to simulate bracing for impact.
Btw, this will never happen. Shield is the only way to play for noblocknabs.

Real Medieval Shield+Sword fighters would slap you for that. :D
(and this would give an unfair bonus vs any kind of ranged / and infantry player, cus the shields get much more durable.)

It could work as kind of gamble. You can choose to block with a shield with the mechanics we have now, or another button for "manually" blocking with a shield. If you block it succesfully, your shield suffers reduced damage from melee attacks, and if you fail, your shield will take inreased damage.
Add some time window for this to make it more difficult (cause failing at normal manual blocking costs you hitpoints, but this only damages your shield). Maybe so that when you click the "manual" shield block, you have like 100ms of reduced damage, 100 ms for normal damage, and if the timing is off by more than that you'll suffer increased damage to the shield. The whole duration of this "manual shield block" could be something like 400ms, so once you choose to go for it, you'll be stuck with it for a moment. And this way you can't bind a macro that constantly refreshes your block, thus giving you a "manual" block and a normal shield block at the same time.
It could actually be very similar to chambering, the risk as well as reward is just waaaay lower.
Just and an idea I got from this

And about Harpag's suggestion:
Not sure how this blocking with a weapon and with a shield would work. Basicly you could just turn your shield into a passive arrow catcher, while you're fighting otherwise identically as a shieldless 1hander? With the exeption that you can start using your shield as you please (when getting ganged), without a normal penalty of taking it from you back? Sounds kinda Op :D
And I don't think it could be possible with current mouse&keyboard machanics / brain I have right now to control each hand separetely. I mean like blocking a sideswing with your shield at the same time you're blocking an overhead with your weapon. If this is what you even meant in the first place.

Or you can chamber attacks...
-
Shouldn't this be in suggestions? Also this seem kind of anti-productive, to not shield yourself with your shield...
-
Real Medieval Shield+Sword fighters would slap you for that. :D
Why? They, too, would obviously block with their swords if the strike came from the left.

they propably would, but they would never ever use their bazillion goldpieces sword to not have their wooden shield damaged... " or to conserve its hp. "
Swordblocking is not really useful, cus it binds your own sword. U can attack with your shield then - but the other way round is much more efficient.

This is when you chamber. Tanken beat me to it nvm.

Isn't it easier to have a key for "raise shield"
Let's say we bind it to "z"
When holding "z" the shield is raised and is blocking (old "mouse2" block)
It should take 0.2 seconds/ divided by (Shield speed/100), which would make the "raised shield" block very risky to use when trying to feint
and...
Mouse2 now blocks with the weapon, you block direction-wise, just like when not having a shield.
Other ideas that could make shields more interesting(OP?)
-Change animation for swings, stabs and overheads so that shield coverage is offered to the front vs. missiles, and potentially conceals the attack direction you have readied A BIT(<<<----- NOT COMPLETELY!)
The current flailing about with the shield when feinting just looks... strange(aka. immersion breaking)
-Raised shield should be immune to nudges(not kicks).
-Hitting a shield and doing damage to it(not breaking it) should be very risky for cutting and especially piercing weapons, imagine a steel pick buried to the haft in a shield...
The idea is: Almost automatic weapon stun on attacking weapon for piercing weapons that deals more than half shield hp in damage... much lower chance for cut weapons(1/3 of piercing risk?) but still risky, and no risk at all(max 1% of piercing risk) for blunt weapons.
-
Just add directional blocking for shielders too, if you block correctly the hits do the same damage as now, if you failblock then it does a multiplier to damage. Arrows work the same.
Sound good?

Some combination of impossible (without WSE update) and useless.
You can always just put your shield on your back if you want to manual block.
Any 2h/polearm worth blocking will probably stun the shit out of your one-hander anyway though.
