Title: Unban request (FakeKesh_BRD) EU3
Post by: Keshian on January 08, 2011, 08:40:52 pm
I was recently banned by cmpx yesterday for poll-banning enemy team in a strategus fight.  I have never previously poll banned during a straetgus fight.  The circumstances were unusual to say the elast.  None of the strategus battles are actually working.  We show up for the battles and it never initiates so both sides essentially do a staring contest to see who leaves first.  My team was kicked/banned in a neutral castle defense battle shortly before this one involving the grey order.  However, under the circumstance I made no complaint because after an hour it was the only way to end the fight that never was.
What the Grey order members failed to mention was that an hour had already passed in this staring contest (much like if 1 person on enemy team who refuses to spawn and so can never end fight) and both sides were promising never to leave the server.  No admins were coming, pre-dawn hours in the EU.  Under most circumstances I would never do poll-ban eneemy team in strategus battle, but under the circumstances it was the only reasonable move to prevent the wasting of hours of both mine and my teammates' lives to no effect.
The strategus battles are currently broken and under this particualr situation I do not consider it fair to be banned for a month by cmpx.

It was not an hour.
The castle fight was Turks vs Neutral, unrelated to grays.

What gives you the right to decide the 500 troops win against 3500? Gray Order tried to talk to you, only to get spammed in the chat. The reasonable move of your team would have been to leave, or atleast listen to the Grays

IMO this ban is legitim.

Unban on 1. Feb ...

What gives you the right to delay the game for hours.  You didnt have any reasonable suggestions other then "I will never leave this server".  Is it somehow worse because you had more troops then the attackers?  Strategus is bugged, this was the only way to end it.  And yes it was 1 hour, started at midnight NA central time and wasnt even done until 1:15 NA central time.  If I thought there was another way I would have gone that route, I dont care who wins or loses, but my team had more palyers and this battle was never actually going to initiate so this was th eonly possibility.  There were no admins available at that hour for an EU server.  It really wasnt that different from that battle against the Pecores you fought months ago, leiknir where they ahd 2000 to your 500, but the last guy sapwned naked and would run around naked or would refuse to spawn.  In certain non-normal battle situations there is no other choice.  I didnt act in spite or with any ulterior motive, the match was bugged and only way to end it.

Under the same situation I would do the same thing again.  STRATEGUS BATTLES ARE CURRENTLY BUGGED/BROKEN... THERE IS NO WAY TO END THEM EXCEPT BY EVERYONE LEAVING ON ONE SIDE...IF YOU REFUSE TO LEAVE, NO ADMINS AVAILABLE, THEN YES YOU SHOULD BE POLL BANNED RATHER THAN WASTE 5 HOURS GETTING TO THE SAME OUTCOME!

If this was a real strategus battle, yes I wholeheartedly think I should get a 1 month ban, its a stupid way to win.  But this was not a real battle and it was not done as a way to win, but as a way to end  a bugged battle.  At the very least it should be a reasonable 1 week to 1 day ban under the given circumstances, its not like an actual battle was taking place, we were just two groups of people doing an e-staring contest.

Can any actual admin explain why this is a fair punishment under the strange circumstances of the current strategus battles?

Still, why is the only possible way to end the staring contest by banning the team with way more tickets? Why not leave yourself, as the battle would have been lost for your side under normal circumstances anyways.

I'd like to notice that we tried to resolve this issue by inviting Sir_Tankmen to our TS. We asked him to leave the battle without kicking competition. We got the reply - he can't stop kicking cause guys have fun doing that.

CMPX  - thank you for your reaction. I believe your sentence is justified. I also had a chat with our guys that also got banned for some time and they agreed it is justified. Poll kicking/banning is not a right solution in such cases. I believe this situation could have been resolved in amicable way.

That I wish Id known of.  Tankmen never mentioned talking to you in TS in the team chat.  I wasnt on vent with these guys as I was just mercing for them and all I saw was the universal chat in-game where both sides were taunting each other about how they would never leave the server as if that somehow was a solution.  If you guys had more mercs then us show up for that bugged fight and kicked us off I really wouldnt have cared, just like the previous bugged strategus fight happened to us.  There really isnt a solution available that could amicably be reached by both sides and with no admin available I would have done the same thing by that point if I had been mercing for you except to the other team.

Why would you be unbanned if there is picture proof? It's not an excuse that you've never done it before or wasting hours, you still pollbanned people.

Ban is justified IMO, end of topic.

Date of Unban: 1. Feb 2011 until cmpx decides something else. You can talk to him on IRC ...

I am not saying I didnt ban poll.  I am saying there were no admins available in a bugged match where it was the only way to end the match in pre-dawn EU hours, which is a justifiable reason under extenuating circumstances that would give reason for making the ban for a week rather than a month.  Intent was not malicious or an attempt to cheat, simply trying to work around a broken game mechanic of a battle that was never actually going to take place.

Let me ask this again, why is it more reasonable to "bugfix" a situation like this with kicking the team with way more troops, than leaving yourself?

Let me ask this again, why is it more reasonable to "bugfix" a situation like this with kicking the team with way more troops, than leaving yourself?

My leaving would still have solved nothing and I would have failed in my obligations to merc until the end of the battle (i have a very good reputation for showing up for fights and lasting till the end no matter how long that I have worked hard to maintain).  My team would still have had more mercs and when you voted to kick one of our members of course it failed, whereas it did succeed on my team and actually finished the battle.  There was no amicable way to agree to completely give up on either side as both sides were talking about never leaving.  I am kind of wishing I had just left my computer on and went somewhere and read a book instead (I wasnt going to leave and desert the team that hired me by leaving the server), but I tend to be proactive with trying to find solutions to things.  Number of troops didnt even enter into my consideration (it probably would have if it was like 90 v 3 or somehting not 550-3000), just what was the only way this would end without waiting 6 hours for an admin to wake up.

Either way I am sorry that you lost your troops.

TBH: Im not even trying to get out of the ban, but asking that under the circumstances it shouldnt be so stringent as its very different from doing it in a non-bugged battle.

Quote
Sir_Brogg_IV_TGK, Sir_Anderson, Sir_Ryan_TBK and FakeKesh_BRD banned until February for poll-ban abuse.
Harpag, Liveon_Ennea and Chivalry_UnknownHood banned until 12nd Jan for poll-kick abuse (sorry, poll-kicking is not an acceptable way to solve this. You should have just taken screenshots and reported).

Well that answers that.

Now back to laughing at the irony of this entire situation!

Wow, an NA admin who has nothing to do with the battle repeatedly commenting upon the matter.  Lorne - leave your mother's basement, get some sunlight, and stop it with your weak trolling.

I have to agree with kesh that a month long ban in a battle that didn't even happen is a little over the top. We should get a reset or rollback or something since shit like this has been happening ever since the patch ...so why hate?

I agree that rollback would be a good solution. I would also say that bans should be waived then.

+1 :).  There have been a lot of fights determined this way, I wholeheartedly agree that there should be a rollback for those fights even if my ban stays 1 month.  Basically every fight for last 2 weeks that somehow happened even though strategus battles were not set to work yet should be redone.

When the ban was made not all the information was available to the admin regarding the fight.  Not so much arguing as providing more accurate information in the hope that reasoned judgment would dictate a lighter sentence.

Don't see why there is an unban at all. This isn't the first time this has happened, pretty sure the previous offenders were PERMA-banned.

I think they were unbanned in the end. Also, Strategus wasn't bugged when that happened.

Funny, but not acceptable to me, is your justification, lady Keshian.
It's through you and your guys, we lost Balanli,3.5k tickets, and n ~ 500k gold (eq).
And here you are writing a fairy tale(political-fiction), if you made a great gift for us...
Thank you, Thank you miss Keshian...
Yes, it was unique and very reasonable solution.
But only for swindlers.

PS Maybe 6 months ban for me(for reaction), an permaban for You(for action)?
It's probably a reasonable offer?

LOL, wow you are so small and petty.  Games have glitches, admins can fix them, but if no admins are available the players themselves have to figure out a solution.  I couldnt care less one way or the other who owns Balanli, but i do have respect for my time and other players' time unlike you who were promising never to leave the server along with players on both sides.

The real world counts a lot more then some fantasy world, so get off your high horse, I refused to allow you to swindle my time. I would have done the same thing against the other team if I had been mercing for you (i applied for both sides), it was  a lame situation being exacerbated by the egos of the 2 clans and I was one of the few neutral mercs there.  I dont think its fair that you lose your village without a fight, nor do I think it would have been fair that the attackers lose all their top-shelf expensive equipment they had for us to take on that village.  Neither way was it fair, but the strategus battle was glitched and had no other way to end.

I think they should rollback the last few battles as every strat fight that went on was won this way last 2 weeks (though this is only one I heard of people actually being banned for) because none of the battles are working.  And yes it was an excessive punishment... the poll banning had nothing to do with some kind of swindle or being mean, it was just an attempt to fix a problem with no admin available.  Im sorry you lost your village and I do hope it gets rolled back, but trying to get all high and mighty over this situation is ridiculous.

It's kind of stupid to ban anyone over a an issue in a strategus battle when STRATEGUS IS COMPLETELY BROKEN!!!    I am expecting a rollback or something to make up for all the problems so far.

Exactly, this is your big problem, that you fraud and theft is an acceptable solution for you.
You are neutral?
ROTFL.
No, you were one of the people, who started this thievery.
Neutral players came out of the game, or didn't participate in voting.
Simply, you're cheeky now begging for unban.
