My uncle used to have a NES. He's a huge Donald Duck fan, collecting the book and stuff.
Solely bought it for playing Duck Tales
He eventually got Super Mario too ofc! :D

Thing to note is that consoles nowadays are made for an older demographic. You wouldn't get so many older teens sitting playing Mario on a Nes, it was mostly very young kids. Just look at the old marketing for it

I never had a Nintendo, but the various 8-bit consoles that I had served me quite well to play them Nintendo games. Almost all of them. Later I cut down on my lunch allowances and got a Mega Drive. A while later, my cousin got a PS1 and I enjoyed the glorious first days of it. As for computers, I had to wait until I started university, got a part time job and bought my own second-hand PC. I never had an N64 too but needless to say, I did a lot of emulator gaming on my first years of using a PC (which allowed me to gulp down the entire history of gaming; praise MAME).

There goes my history. It honestly brings a tear to my eye. Maybe I used to like everything better as a child or maybe those games were truly golden. One thing I know for sure is that nothing feels as good as they did now.

Yeah I remember Sonic on the megadrive. I played that to death simply because every time you fucked up you had to go right back to the start of the level. And if you spent to long on it and didn't make enough progress your parents kicked you off, so next time you fired it up you had to start all over again.

i had a Atari 2600 with wood paneling, it came in a trunk case, and you put the fucking games in it backwards, idk why.  My neighbor owned a Nes, which is where i got to play one, but my family never actually bought one.  Instead, they bought a Super Nintendo, to this day we still own it along with the 65 gray cartridges.  Since then, i think i have had every console that has come out, along with a pc.  (EDIT: I forgot all about the Sega products, friends of mine all had the segas, i always liked how amazing the dreamcast was, too bad it was just too ahead of its time.)

Are these staged?  This is cringeworthy regardless.

Pity I had to sell off most of my old consoles to pay bills.  Atari 2600, NES, SNES, Genesis...the only ones I have left that are functional are N64 and Dreamcast.

You should have conserved them in good condition. A few decades more and those things will be worth some serious dough.

IRS breaking into your shit > The vidya

I did make a bit extra though so it wasn't a total wash.  Not as much into games as I used to be, it didn't bother me to sell them as much as it should have.

My uncle got me a Commodore C64 for my 8th birthday. With a computer in the house, my parents never allowed me a console. I always had to visit a friend to play on his NES and later SNES)...  :( But I remember that awesome football game for the NES with those ugly/obese looking players in it.

EDIT: Nintendo World Cup was the name.

I had Commodore 64 ('portable' version), NES, Gameboy, SNES, Megadrive, Playstation 1, N64, PC 386, PC Pentium 1, and only PC's from then on. Played a lot of Amiga 500 elsewhere, it was probably the best back then, though the SNES and PS1 were really good platforms.

With little exception and as per some kind of consumer policy my parents consistently forced me to sell my old system before getting a new one, which is hardly commendable to think of today, in particular considering the mere symbolic amounts you got for your old systems when a new generation was on the market. Would've been great to have had all these old systems today.
