Title: The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth
Post by: Daunt_Flockula on September 08, 2014, 01:21:41 pm
Just preordered. Can't wait for the dang thing to be eventually released. I am raping the download button on Steam but nothing happens QQ

The original game provided me with tens of hours of fun. You may think that I am exaggerating, but the original must be the one game I have played the most ever.

Edit: Just realized that Kafein has already opened a thread for it.
Pixeled minds think alike after all.

Bloody hell this trailer is even more horrifying than the previous one.

Indeed it is. Truly reflects the darkness in this seemingly cartoonish game.

Bump. Most Christian Game 2014 is out, and it's worth the 15 bucks.

Shiet! I am away from home and I can't even touch that beauty before weekend. My hands are itching to get placed on wasd and arrow keys.

The cursed eye is the most obnoxious item to pick up, I got achievements for beating two levels/areas twice without getting hit but not the character unlock, and mom's leg comes down too fast while the shadows don't seem noticeable enough in general. I also dislike when you get a lot of stuff following you around because it's just too much in the later levels.

Great game, just frustrated after my first two runs were a success and then I keep getting shitty RNG the subsequent ones. The walls spiders that shoot beams are also cheap as fuck.

Well it's true some things can get you screwed big time ("are you a wizard" uuurgh), but you can start again very quickly as well.

I was near the end on one run where I was a flying, shot a continuous stream of tears and was pretty much set to finish and then didn't realize I was in a dice room and got a terrible combination of weapons and add-ons.

My next run I was still base stats by the womb as every treasure room/chest had a useless activation item or non-factor upgrade.

I didn't realize until after I finished with Cain the first couple of times but he was nerfed pretty heavily also.

More blood, piss and shit!

Been on it for 3 hours straight. I am both exhausted and craving for more. This is one hell of a rebirth.

Like they say, Azazel seems OP.

Stop teasing me meanie :D

I still have a lot to uncover.

I just looked up the amount of available playthroughs and my mind imploded.

EDIT : dat difficulty spike after defeating mom good lord

Post by: Daunt_Flockula on November 10, 2014, 06:23:06 pm
Indeed Azazel seems to be OP'ish. But the short range of his brimstone laser evens it out. Given the fact that he also has no red hearts by default makes him a good powerful yet challenging character.

The difficulty does peak up after mom. Still, luck+the right combinations can get you as far as you would like to go. The only limitation is that there are too many items now and your chances of getting the advantageous combinations is reduced a lot. Be just a little reckless and you can even spoil an already good build, ending up in shambles instead.

Late edit: The "Are U a Wizard" pill isn't permanent. I guess it sticks for about 1 minute or so. Don't feel you have to start over, if you have a good build. Shoot away in an empty room for a while and it goes away.

Defeated mom's heart last night. Even though I said "difficulty spike", I only did like 5 runs between defeating mom and defeating mom's heart, due to a super lucky run. My base item was tar, which means occasional tears that inflict slow + I leave a smudge (like the flickering blood some enemies do) that inflicts slow on contact. I bought mom's purse at level 3 or something, which gave me 3 pretty flies. This seems like nothing but it basically means 99.9% invulnerability against tears. Then I got war as a depth boss, so I had flight (seriously, why on earth would I ever switch to another energy item after getting that?). Finally among the notable loots I got evil friend, which is a follower with azazel's attack, except with infinite range. That guy ended up being much more powerful than my base damage tears. The only difficult part of mom's heart was when it stopped using tears. Other than that I could almost stand still dishing out damage lol. I can't even imagine the pain of doing this without those flies though. Mom's heart bullet hell is hell.

Managed to get to mom with 1 heart multiple lives thingy, got fucked. Had 2 hearts at a point where i though i was back in business, since i was struggling and died a lot to random stages with 1 heart, but ofcourse a pill of ebola stole that extra heart, gg.

Mom's heart isn't so bad, the pattern doesn't really change from playthrough to playthrough and as long as I have decent damage from whatever I scavenged along the way and I have ~4 hearts to burn I'm good to go. I did get lucky a few runs though and managed to save the emperor card for the last level.

Azazel does feel OP though. The beam is alright, it's high risk high reward, but the starting flight means that half of the challenge, maneuvering around the rooms and floor hazards, are gone.

Haha, I had this happen to me as well. As a long time player of the first game, I saw guppy and immediately thought "jackpot", but that item is actually horrible for getting anything done. I remember it was just plainly OP in the first game for some reason. Anyways I encountered mom with nine lives, one heart and two spectral hearts and got my ass kicked 9 times lel. Also the ebola pill omg.

I just defeated the heart again btw, this time I had even more slow-effect tears, sticky companion, 2 flies and the first stage of meat cube. I derped very hard at the start of the last stage because I could have gone to the next level instead.

None of you guys made it to the Cathedral or Hell yet? I have already defeated Isaac and Satan a few times. Now I need to unlock the Family Photo trinket to get to the Lamb and ??? or even kick Super Satan's ass.

Also remember that you can get the three flies by repeatedly using the slot machine and trying your luck at it. Do use that whenever you get the chance. I am not even mentioning the possibility of getting a full dollar bill out of it.

I beat Sheoul and Satan but I still have a few more play-throughs before it's permanently opens rather than having a random chance to go there.

Nope, but I sure as hell did go this far much faster than the first time around.

I just hit hell and the cathedral, there was a point in fighting mom's heart mk.II where it was literally impossible to not get hit unless you were some kind of pinball wizard. The four directional beams plus swirling bullets and although I managed to beat it I didn't realize I had unlocked the next point and died in the second room.

I'm on 11 wins 13 losses right now I think.

Beat mom with a scrappy build but tons of BALLS OF STEEL. Then went on to try hard difficulty, got insane damage powerups but slowly died to mass scattershots and never got heals :C

I happened to be lucky enough to snatch mom's knife+brimstone laser in my latest playthrough. I am not going to ruin the surpise for you. Let's just say the resulting synergy is super cool and you will enjoy every little bit of it :D

Yep, I definitely miss the original music. You get used to the new ones but I still have the old tunes running in my mind in the background.

I wish they released an update or something that makes it possible to switch between soundtrack packs.

Yes, I muted the music after a few hours.

I have one ending left but I'm not sure I'll bother with all the challenges or unlockables besides the characters.

steam review, how clever

>stroll into my local GameStop
>looking to pick up a copy of Binding of Isaac
>grab the game and take it to the charming maiden at the register
>"Pardon me, milady...but could you ring me up? A shame I don't have your number or I'd ring you up instead..."
>she giggles and takes the game, blushing as her fingers brush mine due to my fingerless gloves
>her eyes widen as she reads the game's title
>"Wow, I've never seen anyone buy this before! You must have special taste!"
>I smile and ready a witty response when suddenly a voice rings out from behind
>"Hahaha look at what this ♥♥♥♥♥♥ is buying! That's not Call of Duty! What a piece of ♥♥♥♥!"
>I quickly turn around, my cloak billowing behind me, to discern the source of the rude outburst
>generic dudebro caricature with a sports team cap and "the guy that beat you up that one time behind the school in early October" shirt is standing there guffawing
>"Excuse me sir...you may disparage my person if you wish, but it is untoward to swear in front of a lady."
>"♥♥♥♥ you ♥♥♥♥♥♥!"
>I smile quietly and tip my fedora low across my eyes, concealing them
>"As you wish..."
>I quickly swing my cane into his kneecap before he can react
>he bellows and charges forward
>I expertly sidestep him and the cashier screams as he crashes into the counter
>I draw my sword-cane and mutter a quiet oath as I drive it deep into his back
>"...requiescat in pace..."
>As I clean my blade the girl walks out from behind the counter, twirling her hair with her fingers
>"So...maybe you'd like to come over to my place to play that game sometime...?
>"No thanks, milady, it's single player only. Besides..."
>I sheath my sword
>"You're not my type."
>skate away on my Heelys

Sad how shit the music is compared to original.

This so much. I most dearly miss the necropolis depth theme, with its changing tempo: http://dbsoundworks.bandcamp.com/track/dreadful

Isaac is still corrupt!

Afterbirth is out, great expansion.

The mega corny poop boss tho. That is one tough bastard and so difficult to beat without taking a lot of hits. Also Mega Greed (or whatever the actual name was). That guy has tons of hp. I managed to take it down once with Azazel. Not sure how things will go with others. But overall, it is a great expansion and Greed mode is quite well done.

I beat Ultra Greed with Azazel first try, with a good build it took some time though.

Apparently the devs made a pretty sick treasure hunt, very cryptic stuff. This shit is actually really fucking cool. I love stuff like this.
