First impressions:
Content is awesome, lots of history stuff to read (i am a history buff :) ).
Looks like a lot of nice strategic map features implemented, will be interesting to see how that develops.
Combat... someone never bothered to tell them that infantry on infantry combat in EB was too fucking slow... because they've made it EVEN MORE SLOW. Seriously, it's fucking ridiculous now, to the point where a couple of super basic, naked and untrained spearmen units can hold a wooden fort against a much larger and better force... simply because you can't kill them in time :/
Basically, infantry on infantry is a mind-numbingly boring slugfest, that just doesn't get anywhere.
Basic archers/slingers seem utterly useless, failing to kill said spearmen, even when hitting them from the rear. Throwers seem somewhat borked, barely throwing anything, maybe 5 projectiles per volley or so... :/
-
I've grown to love slower and slower and slower battles since workshop and Rome II and better access to mods :) I take your first impressions as an encouragement!
10 minutes long battles is for me the new "yawn"-fest. No epic battles lasted that short.
Maybe they went too far in the slowness, but as long as important battles take less than 1 hour and have realistic approachs to them, its cool to me.
-
How about two-three units of the most basic barbarian spearmen fighting each other and some naked skirmishers for over an hour and then running out of time to take a minor wooden fort?
-
Tried a few battles, and if you bring a few shockers and missiles, besiege or assault through multiple paths, everything breaks after a few minutes, 20+ for open field, 30+ for sieges.
If you pitch low attack/high defense units together into one bottleneck with no ranged support it can last forever but the question would be: why would you do that?
Forts and town squares have always been hard to take in MEDII, nothing related to EBII, whose slower battles only increase the native problem.
Open field and settlement battles are pretty fine.
My problem atm is that the CAI is pretty inactive and doesnt attack me :| I expand into rebels and neighbours pretty easily while they only pace about their petty kingdoms.

I saw a mini-mod aimed at making battle casualties faster somewherebon the TW center EB2 forums. You're not the only one who thinks even the most basic units are too ridiculously tough.
Here it is, haven't tried it dunno if the tweaks work well:
http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?663926-Faster-battles-submod-of-mine
The problem isn't morale, but defensiveness, armor and hit point values apparently.
-
I wonder if that submod breaks save games?
-
Anyone tried the submod? Already rage quit my dream because of krems style hugfest combat. I want to see more death.

http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?664447-Submods-Which-ones-are-you-using
This thread has some feedback about the few submods that have already been released. Apparently the faster battles one makes battles too fast now. I'd suggest tweaking and playing around with values yourself to find an ideal balance, but if you don't have the time I'm sure something appropriate will be along soon enough.
-
I'm playing with 0.4 currently, seems to be much better, sieges are bearable now.

New CAI BETA. (http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?664305-EB-team-s-NEW-CAMPAIGN-AI-RELEASE-TEST)
Tested and approved... much more active diplomacy and wars.
-
Haven't had much time to play this, I was a little disapointed after the 2 campaigns I played so far.
But after reading through forums a little I realised, that this release is still very much beta - only 200/500 planned units implemented so far for example..
A new version has been released btw. http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?666243-Europa-Barbarorum-2-01-released!
I think this mod will take a lot more time until its "finished".
Anyway gonna start a new campaign as Pontos now :D
-
On top of that there's the engine. MTWII always was clunky compared to RTW. Next time I want strategy in the ancient world I will probably just install the original.
-
I'm having more fun with this mod than Rome 2, is that bad?
Needs more content but loving it so far.
-
I think EBI is superior to EBII, which of course is also still in beta. Give it a try if you like the second.
