Title: Lighting Strike where I work
Post by: Lt_Anders on August 15, 2014, 03:06:42 pm
So, yea 4:30 EST our office was hit with lighting bolt. I got shocked like crazy(my right arm was felt "off" for 2 hours).

Fun reason why I don't have to work, albiet fucking scared away an employee. Had the lighting continued straight down, he'd have been hit as it was directly above his chair. He left right after it happened, and didn't bother coming in today either.

American quality buildings. Made by wood as thick as quality photo paper

And then being surprised how a hurricane can wreck a whole state. Start building properly instead of cheap!

Fun Fact: We are structural Engineers. We design this kinda stuff for a living. Spent 6 hours rebooting the office. We lost a $30,000 printer(for now, we might be able to repair it), and 1 comp got toasted hard(motherboard toasted). We lost every switch in the building and 3 cables and several nic connectors.

WOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

Missing a hand (or a banana) for scale, but that hole sure seems huge.

I don't know much about lightning and such, but shouldn't there had been a rod on your roof, directly linked to the floor, to let all that energy through without breaking the building ?
Anyway, most offices and even particular houses are assured against "natural disasters", so you (your company) should be able to fix that.

My heart already skips a beat when someone sneaks on to me... so a damn lightning...

Size of the hole was about the size of a softball. Bigger than a hand.

All repairs are the responsibility of the landlord(We rent, I believe). 3 days and we still have a big ass blue tarp over the building. Looks lame as shit.

That first riff has awfully similar feel to this old piece:

Lol and that power metal clishe of over using key chord change- trick in Thor video. It was (and is) so common it's hilarious. Most of the time the songs don't even need that. Just irritates my ears when I hear unnecessary key change in songs :D.
