Title: level 35 build questions
Post by: Kadeth on August 09, 2014, 02:47:54 am
Currently my main is level 34 21/21:

Weapon Master:7
Athletics:7
Iron Flesh:7
Shield:1
Power Strike:7
Polearm: 170

Level 35 isn't too far away, and I'm unsure if I should get 4 shield, or 2 shield and 2 riding. So, my questions are:

Many thanks in advance,

Kadeth

2 Riding is not worth it at all, you can only ride the sumpter horse at that lvl of riding irrc and to be effective cav u need about 6 riding at least so u can ride many horses

I'm almost level 35 as well, I'll share my build. It's somewhat similar but I split some wpf to 1H since I will have shield skill at 35.

Level 34:
24 Strength
21 Agility

8 Powerstrike
7Athletics
7Weapons Master
1 unspent point

155 Polearm WPF
115 One-handed WPF

Level 35:

24 Strength
21 Agility

8 Powerstrike
7 Athletics
7 Weapons Master
4 Shield

155/115 wpf split

I'm not sure what you want to do since you have maxed IF for your strength level already. Not sure about 2 shield skill, but one is pretty much useless (what I have right now). 2 will let you wear some shields for strat battles, and the low skill level won't matter as much in shieldwalls. If you play a lot of strat, 2 shield skill isn't a bad choice.

2 riding I can only recommend if you want to play a joke-class donkey cav or sumpter cav. You can actually do really well with a +3 donkey and the right polearm. Long hafted blade is wonky and unique (it's like playing a whole new class!).  Red tassel/war spear work pretty good as well. Bec de corbin is hilarious and no one expects the damage.

my current build at level 35:
24 strength
24 agility

8 powerstrike
8 athletics
4 WM

132 2h wpf.

i would sugjest getting 4 shielding. that way you can run around with a heavy round sheild. they basically make projectiles non existant.

You should get 4 shield skill (7 at level 36 if you ever reach it).

Anything else would be a damn waste of skillpoints.

Oh man... Imagine iron staff or long maul with that build... I'm tempted to save up for training lessons...

Sounds like 4 shield is the way to go.

Thank you, kind sirs.

I went with 4 shield in this same scenario. Use a heavy round shield (or the always-OP elite cav/knightly heater shields) and you won't even need to worry about it breaking (despite the relatively low shield skill amount). The only time a heavy round has broken on me is against a good ole axe... or two... or three. The knightly heater is a little weaker but somehow manages to last nearly as long while being a lot quicker and lighter.

That Build seems good but i think 21/24 with WM and IF would be better. What do u think about that?

I don't plan on taking hits but to be the one dishing it out. I also don't rely on feints as much as I do stuns, length and holds to get kills.

4 shield is a good choice. It's fun to have a strong hoplite option if you feel like it.

24/24 would be great at 36. With that wpf, you'll only deal damage between 21/24 and 18/27. It's currently weaker than 21/24.

4 shield skill and a loomed 4 requirement shield will never break unless you let an axeman wail on it for a while, so you can be a legit hoplite when you want to. 2 riding just lets you troll around on a sumpter, which might be fun, but not terribly effective.

Agreed, I've got 2 riding on my Ranged character currently and trolling around on a Sumpter means you get killed faster than being on a Donkey. People will target you even faster. As is my recent post (http://forum.melee.org/beginner's-help-and-guides/more-riding-vs-ha/) I've gotten 2 riding for future levels to get to a higher level of riding, but given you're already 35, it's just not going to be worth it.

Get the shield points.
