Title: Thrower/1h
Post by: alfasonni on August 07, 2014, 03:21:59 pm
As the topic says, I'd be interested in somekind of fast-moving, thrower/1h hybrid kinda build. Is it viable, and if so, what kind of build should I be aiming for?

Never been a 1h/thrower hybrid, but I'm thinking something like this could work:

Lvl 30

15 str
21 agi

2 skill points to attributes

5ps
7ath
5pt
7wpm

Heavy throwing axes

Then you have 5 points to put wherever you want.

My current thrower/1h is using Masterwork Franciscas as both ranged and melee weapon, build is

6 / 30

2 Powerthrow, 2 Powerstrike, 2 Ironflesh

10 Athletics/Weaponmaster

200 Throwing WPF
73 1handed

This leaves you 6 skill points to throw into riding if you like to headshot horsearchers then steal their ponies and ride off like a boss, throw it into shieldskill and loot one everytime you need to rush some archer scumcunts.

This build is not for new players.

edit: Incase anyone who doesn't know and wants to use throwing weapons in melee: change your Weapon Mode button (default X) to something like Control to save much frustration.

I'm usually playing 15/24 with heavy throwing axes,

8wm / athl
5ps / pt

140 throwing
130 1h

(Supports medium - heavy armor and is quite a useful melee build as well)

And yes. It is viable :D - i have played this build for 18 generations.

My latest lvl 30 build with heavy throwing axe and shield:

15 STR
21 AGI

120 1h
127 throwing

7 weapon master
6 ath
1 IF
5 PS
5 PT
5 Shield

Was fun to play cause you are a counter to every class:  you can't get shot by archers easily (shield), you can throw at everyone who has no shield, and against shielders you have bonus against shield ;)

Used it mostly in Siege but I think for battle it's also nice..

I love playing 18/21 with my skip the fun character.

It's not really reliable in melee, but its actually the strongest cav hunter i have ever player.

7 weapon master (all in throwing)
7 athletic
3 power strike
6 power throw

I always use 3 throwing lances, 6 heavy axes and 8 daggers for archer duels.
But it's not really a serious build, just for fun. loads of fun.

Maybe you should make a skip the fun character and try all suggested builds, then decide which one fits best for you. (remember, not loomed items transfered to skip the fun characters can not be transfered back.... i think)

I tried a few builds, including 15/24 using +3 war darts, and it feels I did next to zero damage. Is it becouse I didnt use axes, or is the damage just supposed to be low on throwers?

Axe them from far, axe them up close. If you have too little wpf in throwing to pick up your axes in your current armor, either cut armor or do 18/18 and get more wpf. Use a skip the fun for testing.

My personal recommendation on equipment is using any sword or mace, a shield, and two pairs of heavy throwing axes. Never throw your last axe, if you are like me, you will use it more than your sword. Getting use to the length is rough, but a +3 of it does 36cut up close and smashes shields. Change your main 1h weapon depending on the enemy: too much plate, grab a mace. Light armor, grab a sword. If you have a sword and do run into a plated player, grab your axe.

On throwing weapons:
Daggers/Darts are not killing weapons. You use them to catch that annoying archer running from you.

Javelins are ok.

Heavy Axes / Jarids are the bread and butter of throwing murder.

Lances are just funny, but impractical for a lv 30 hybrid due to the requirements in wpf and power throw.

As a rule of thumb, Powerthrow 4 is good for softening people up. Powerthrow 5 is where you will start killing things routinely. Powerthrow 6 and above is simply murder, but sometimes unnecessary for the wpf investment.

Just played my 18/21 STF thrower and I can just underline it again. It's just fun

I deal pretty much damage, but most of my kills are random, means i shoot into a group far away from me and sometimes kill someone. (170 wpf throwing)
I am  very accurate and have good chances to catch some standing/hiding archers or reloading xbowers from a long range.

But still, i would only recommend you this build if you continue leveling one day and don't retire.
