They know the power of Steam but there are issues where the launcher is concerned.
But I mostly replied to this thread just to say Mercenaries is a shit mod full of whiney butt bandits.
-
It is incompatible with WSE, iirc.
-
I don't really like the workshop, to be honest. Because it can't support everything, it will split up the userbase.
-
I have not tried mercenaries mod but I'm damn impressed by the results. 20,000 unique visits in a matter of days is impressive. I don't know what kind of marketing they've been doing outside of steam but I've noticed their numbers shoot up recently.
Other Mods to benefit hugely from the surge of new players have been Persistent World. I notice when I play native, Persistent World is promoted in global chat

steam is shit, becouse! games are games no need of third (virtual) party there.
-
Ive gotten permabanned more times in that mod than Panos have in cRPG.

Strongly disagree.
-
i admit its still the best of useless copyprotection online activation kinda things around. If it must be, then steam...

Steam is fucking awesome.
Lets you buy games instantly, lets you chat with friends, lets you update your games without a fuss, lets you take screenshots and videos, lets you share games, lets you keep track of your hours ingame... the list goes on forever.

Biggest perk; Gabe Newell

Steam is pretty much all-in-one for anything you would ever need for PC gaming.

This.
I have only thought of steam as bloatware.. but that changed since I got my physical copy of warband that turned out to be a steam version.
I was quite unhappy about it but went along since I wanted the game anyway.
On Steam back then there were what, shop, chat and games to play?
I mean, look at how much it has progressed during those years, like since I have bought Warband itself, which was in july 2010.
And that was still great for it's time, predating all this useless junk like Origin etc which are the real useless, forced bloatware crap.
Needless to say my views have changed completely and Steam is mandatory for me now.

Buy the game for full price, steam has a sale on that exact game one week later.
Good guy steam, yeah right.
-
So Steam should never have sales on games that have been sold for a full price ever before? Do you know what the definition of a sale is?

You are not forced to buy anything.
-
Thing is, they're trying to get mod support on themselves aswell. But the restrictions they put on the mods you are allowed to upload limits the creativity.
-
I'm guessing it is probably due to lacking infrastructure capabilities that they currently limit the size of the mods in the workshop. Becoming a large scale filehoster, with an audience as large as Steam has, is no easy undertaking, especially if they don't compensate with ads and whatnot.
-
Seeing those view numbers I'm starting to suspect this is perhaps some facebookish inflated count thing.
Also first post since I'm back from holidays yay

Pfffft....good one.

Steam did really come along way from 2007 when I joined it first, I really can't imagine my gaming done in any way other than via Steam, sure I do play games off Steam but I consider my main platform and gaming life on Steam.
Steam ofc isn't flawless and in recent year of them trying to be more open and friendly to indie developers with Greenlight and workshop, things didn't really turn out well and we have seen an influx of shit undeveloped games and a bombardemnt with "new titles" that just became a joke from developers of cheap casual games, Steam needs to take that control back, be more serious with their quality control or else you will be floded with crap and the only thing that will stand out are either big big AAA titles vs the rest of the crap and some real gems will be lost in the mass of crap. I will not even touch the early acess thing, that is a subject for itself.
Also I hope they don't lose the track of what I wrote above with their push into living rooms and competing with console market. Maybe the above is planned in such way just because of it, I wouldn't know.
All in all big up for Steam, let's just hope they still remember the PC crowd in the years to come, the crowd that made them what they are today

The only thing I dont like about steam is that you cant play your games without being online. :?

If you've got your games installed then yes you can, you start in offline mode lol.
-
They changed that?

Last month I didnt have internet for 10 days, and I had installed Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas and Skyrim, and I though I couldnt play them

To my knowledge you've been able to do it for years lol. Some people have problems with it but I've not had any myself when I've needed to use it.

Haha you've been able to do it for years. Me and my dad use the same account, he just downloads a game and plays them offline so he doesn't log me out. We've been doing that for about 5 years
I also downloaded and played them offline when I was in India due to unreliable internet.
The only issue is if you go online, a game starts updating, and then you lose internet. You can't play because it won't let you until the update has fully downloaded.

Oh, come on, don't tell me i'll have to stop pirating music as well >_>
--edit: misread, it's just a music player interface for steam.
