Title: Line battle
Post by: NJ_Legion_Icedtea on July 11, 2014, 02:01:02 pm
I'm sure many of you have seen this video before but for those who have not you are in for a treat. I know we have formations and better teamwork in Strat than on EU1 but I found it good inspiration on how fun open maps can be when you work together.
Some regular line battle events like this would be great fun.

The feeling of being one person in an army is what I love about this game though
Its what got me into the game as well, and its one of the reasons why I love it. Problem I have is that these people make it all look so silly. Everyone running around in the best gear, people fighting in melee with two shields, and so on. They try to make it look like a "real" battle, but end up making it as unrealisitc as you could in Native.
Also the commentator seems completely oblivious as to what is going on, saying stuff like "Its not obvious who's your enemy because people are not using uniforms with different colors." Well, you got banners over people's heads that make it very obvious who's your enemy, and the armors do the same job as a uniform, especially since everyone is just using top tier armors.
The shieldbattles that Vikingr has are much better.

All of this ^^ The guy commentating has never played it seems.
And Vikingr... Oh man... when your trying to hold the wall, and you FEEL the ground shake as the norman cav comes on... Them saxons tho, they dont take any shit from anyone. Love to choose the archer class as saxons, then ditch the bow and take the extended javelin bag that the archer gets, really good for breaking up Viking shield walls, and bringing down the russian and norman horses.
EDIT: And beheadings.... gotta love beheading ppl.

I remember when LLJK used to get banned for delaying for shit like this. To be fair, we also probably did delay as well... 2XP4barn5admin
Has CRPG mindset changed?

Well this could never work in crpg: its almost impossible to get anyone to fight in a formation since majority of players cannot press Mouse1 without also holding down S. So if half your formation S keys, you are left with huge holes that enemy neverglance shielders can run into and spam spastically with a pick.

Its too bad people want. This to be medieval call of duty - otherwise we could remove k/d entirely and only show total points gained per match on the front page and in game. This way people dont have to be scared for their petty k/d statistics. Which only causes people to play gay and strictly for epeen.

Sums it up really well, something about the ingame emphasis (maybe not even the strict mechanics) encourages the completely wrong attitude when playing this game. Taking it seriously and acting like a big deal, and essentially trying to act like this game is one of your 'e-sports' and you're all professionals.
You shouldnt.
The game isnt.
And you're not.
Exactly. :| but itll never dissapear, because try-hards need to have confirmation that their intense try harding pays off..
I really dont like it :(

I feel the same when I shoot someone with a crossbow or couchlance them, same as I do when I just stab at them with pike or a greatsword while I back up: WHY is this rewarding, I'm not doing anything that involves skill, and on top of that, I'm not even taking any risks, they literally have no way to fight back.
But then, you see stuff like Van Damme on EU3, with his armoured horse and great lance, only agreeing to duels with guys who have short weapons, then just couching them, riding away, couching again, etc, just to inflate his e-penis.

Do eu3 kills & deaths get uploaded to the website?

Siege I guess?
Siege is always full of random fun to be had!

Something i really needed last night in this mod, was grinding ticks for strat cos the strat map is interesting (hate public servers but only way to get shitty ticks), and ran into Atas at the ballista and we didnt kill each other despite being on different teams and had some lolz. Suddenly remembered that it was the same map we'd done the same thing on in the past.
Reminds me that not everyone is a scumbag who only wants kills, some people are visibly just hanging out and having fun (we did both have positive K/Ds on that map so it wasnt all troll).
brocoding is bannable.
I'm calling the badmins.
Just to clarify though, I agree with your point. Its fun to see people just 'hang out' in the game if you will.
