Title: Group selfies
Post by: Daunt_Flockula on June 07, 2014, 09:41:40 pm
:Sigh:

Seriously, when is this excessively lame teenage trend going to end? My friends, colleagues, people I love... All of them and their mothers do this shit on a daily basis. If I step up and tell them, it won't be any good. I am not afraid of getting negative responses, but I am rather hesitant, because what I have to say might hurt some people I care about.

What is this general human behavior of overusing any freshly served shit about anyway? Why don't people let it go after a while?

group ones are hardly new. They have been going ever since a camera got put on a phone and before that people took those crappy disposable cameras...

People like having things to remind them of being with other people.

I have no problem when a teenage girl takes a selfie of her family visiting some monument. The second I am short to the facepalm is when the 50 year old mum does the same.

It's just taking too many unnecessary photos of yourself.

Stop calling it "selfies"

It´s also funny when you compare pictures of a party from male guests and female guests.
Female guests cameras are mostly STUFFED with "stick your head together and smile" group photos while male guest cameras mostly have pictures of the actual party.

well it´s general human behaviour, it´s the same with people in crpg when the teams run in circles on maps for no reason over and over again, it´s just something they do and you can do nothing against it; try to live with it. People like group pictures

I photo with everyone smiling is a simple prove that you had fun and everyone was awesom.
It only requires some seconds of artificial smiling and voila even the most boring place/party/day is proven to be fun.
I think if you experience something nice you either make photos of the interesting things you encounter or you forget about you camera at all.
Taking heaps of selfies/ groupselfies only shows that everybody was pretty bored and had to take selfies to have something to do.

I understand your point Utrakil and others. I understand the need for photographing a happy moment with people you love. It is not something new and it will never get old. Nobody, including myself, has any right to criticize that. Speaking strictly based on my own experience, I can tell you that a solid 70% of all such photos by the people I know do not even belong to groups of closely acquainted people. Really, they are just photos of people who only intend to do that shit for the sake of doing it.

You all know that it started with this:

After that, it became the hot shit. Now, everyone absolutely has to do it on any irrelevant occasion with any random people. Like on a boring business trip with boring colleagues in a group of people, who secretly dislike each other. The way I view it in the case of my friends and colleagues, their ultimate purpose is to upload to the internet stuff that is titled "putanytitlehere selfie".

Hardly. If anything they were late to the party.

im guessing he either doesn't go clubbing etc much or is pretty young if he thinks it started a few months ago

I am 30 years old dear Osiris and it's true that I don't go clubbing ever. And here in Turkey, indeed it started right after that specific group selfie shot during the Oscars became viral. I thought the situation was the same everywhere else, but obviously it is a deeply-rooted pop culture element elsewhere. Also note that those selfies aren't specifically clubbing photos. In fact, I see those taken not in clubs but anywhere else in my case.

Btw, I think Apsod means "those guys are late to catch up with the trend" when he says "late to the party".

The best part about this is that the lines in the panel behind them makes it look like a police lineup with the height markers :P
