Nothing surprising really. I once worked for a company that produces hearing aids, and they discarded last years models on yearly basis - tens of thousands hearing instruments, each ranging 200-1500 Euro in price, are getting literally shoveled in wooden crates to be destroyed. No charity, no price cut-downs, no freebies for anyone :) ( EDIT: they had some special programs to aid developing countries and such, so it was not all greed 24/7 )
If everyone would just wait to get free stuff, cause it's being thrown out, economy would not work - so i don't really see any problem with destroying luxury items like cars and designer cloths. Throwing out food and medicine though feels wrong...

This is pretty horrible but it's compared nothing to tech waste, that shit will literally kill us off.
Why don't they give some of those cars to charities and non profit organisations, I know a few animal shelters in my town that would make good use of those cars, sure it wouldn't solve the problem but would help for straters. I guess there is no profit in that eh and is too much hussle, easier to let them rot.
Dunno if this is true but it's worrying and a reason why today's consumer soiety will crumble:

How about laying off those people pay for their professinal retraining (you have made enough money) and voila, but hey more cars need to be made every years or else the stock market will think we are stagnating and our shares will fall, big manager bonuses must be payed off, no time to worry about puny things like enviroment and progress as long as the pockets are full. crap
Also thinking about it it's kinda funny talking about "green" cars hybrids and such, they are actually contributing to this problem and are nothing but a marketing trick for hipsters from first world countries to feel good about themselves.
