Title: [Clientbug?] Crashes and Mini-Lags
Post by: Niemand on May 18, 2011, 07:36:27 pm
Bro's! Me mad!

My game crashes all the time - mostly when there is a mapchange on siege.

Using windows 7 Build 7601, x86 (dumbness made me use that and not x64), 4gb ram (limited to 3.5 or something thanks to x86), 3ghz dualcore. graphicscard is a G-Force 8800GTS 512.

I play on DirectX7 (had some problems with an other mod... setting it down). I play

I already tried:

H3LPZ!

you should maybe update your c++ redistributable (or something like this its called.).

Same here, I did all of that, still my game just crashes with dx9

On DX7, I only crash when a new map starts.

Utter bullshit.

Yeah my game crashes a lot between map changes. It is incredibly aggravating

My game also crashes when I tab out (to desktop).

The error then is: "unable to lock graphics buffer."

i have:
random crash with RGL error
random crash to destop without any messages (game just closes)
freeze / crash when mapchange
freeze / crash when opening the chatlog
freeze / crash when alt + tab to desktop
freeze / crash when switching to window mode or fullscreen

chance to crash is slightly lower when playing in window mode, but chance to freeze is slightly increased.

i run WinXP SP3, 2.4GHz Core2Duo, 2GB RAM, N460GTX.
i play on DX9.
i didnt have any problems before the patch at all and the only thing that changed in the last 6 months is the cRPG folder.

I marked in green every problem I have, too. the orange one seems to be gone.
that plus one: i have small and tiny lags every few minutes. if there is more action going on the lagging gets harder. I experienced it on DTV... its been not very often that i lagged... until searaiders came. i was holding the back-entrance of the ruins... but i suddenly started to lag as hell... i could not even look around. Looks like some kind of problem with my pc... but i know i am not the only one with that crashes... and i hope the lags are connected to the crashes. :O

I uninstalled all old (2005 - 2009... only the 2010 is left.) C++ redistributhings now. Was not able to play yet, I will try tomorrow.

I also run into those problems. Moreover, my game crashes when i press too many keys (or at least it seems so, i can't use chat as it crash the game from time to time), i crash approx 5 times within 2 hours frame.

Okay guys, I think I worked it out.
I dont have any problems with playing native, but I keep crahing when trying to join a game.
So I launched native, then I joined a cRPG map and I said yes to load another mudule. And I worked!
The problem seems to be the new face skins, because when I entered the game it said:
WARNING: unable to find material manface_white2
...
...
so on on with all the different skin types

But I can still play it seems.
So now the develpors might have an idea of what is causing this problem: the new face skins

Sometimes my crashes say they cant load some textures. I saw that two times now, with one of that samurai-armors and some russian-/khergit-armor... if i remember right.

usually i cant see the error, because the game freezes and is on top of the screen, while the error is in the background. if i press [Enter] or [Space] now, game and error vanish (since i press "Okay").

I think reinstalling windows could work. But that would be a pain in the ass, since i dont have an empty HDD for backing up the stuff on C: (that I would need.). Also, it seems to be a game-problem, so I would not go that far now.

If you got perfomance issues/crash on loading/weird two-frames switching freezes :
Make sure to play with "load textures on demand" and "force single threading". Try every combination of those two options.
Try to kill windows explorer then start the game (you can run it again with the task manager, typing "explorer").
If this doesn't work you can try changing your boot.ini file to change memory management (there's a post about that on taleworlds forum).
And finally, most users having this problem have 32 bit OS (x86), those sort of memory problems usually are gone when you switch to a 64b OS.

Changing graphic settings around seems to help from time to time.

Playing on DTV is a good solution, too. havent got the [L]-key-crash there since at least 12 play-hours, i guess. (And I dont play that often.) and there is nearly no mapchange, so its alright. It only crashes when I tab out to windows. But I just avoid doing that. :D

I sorted it with the c++ thing but it started doing it again, so i downloaded the low texture pack and its still freezing, I have to restart my comp. Grrr

Things which may have helped me, I'm not sure what, because I did these all pretty much simultaneously, and I've had this issue or a similar issue since Warband first came out, before any custom module play:

Changed my graphic card settings.
Turned off textures on demand/forced single threading.
Switched to Dx7.
Always play in windowed mode.

I haven't had any freezing/crashing issues with Mount and Blade or cRPG since I've made these small changes, personally.
