That is a big leap for protheses to be attached to the bone. Looking forward to the first enhancements based on this technologie.

Interesting article, but as a vet student I can say this probably won't be a success. This might be worth it if you want to keep your expensive horse alive to breed with it, but the number of people that would pay sufficient money to give their cat a prothese is close to zero.
You don't let the vet do a surgery on your goldfish either, it would be much cheaper to buy a new one. A vet isn't a doctor who will save his patient no matter the cost, that's the sad truth of being a veterinary.

I think pets are a perfect field to test new sugery methods. if you see it working with all kinds of pets you can start to try same methods with humans. Basically it is animal testing without deliberately cutting of their extremities befor you test the proteses.

This isn't about pets, it's about advancing surgery methods, that may, in future, be used on humans. This is a significant improvement over current prostheses.
