how do i reduce packet loss so i stop disconnecting

Stop downloading shit while you play (includes other people in house that are using bandwidth)
Disable unneeded programs/services
Use wired connection, no wireless
Switch ISP's

those are things a laymen can do to help

Try to also check your router and your cables. I've seen packet loss happen simply because the cables weren't fully plugged in.
