It's based on the social, roleplaying, party game called Mafia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mafia_%28party_game%29 - but a bit more complex, due to many other roles and setups people can play with.
In short, you have villagers and mafia. Villagers need to find out who the mafia is and lynch them. Mafia kills one villager every night. So the villagers need to lynch the mob before it's too late. There is also special roles for each side (for example the Doctor, who can prevent one person from dying every night, or the cop who can figure out if a person is on the mob or villager side). The core of the game is talking. If you are mob you need to not sound suspicious to villagers, if you are villager try not to get yourself lynched. Being silent is suspicious, you need to play it smart.
Most of the games end really fast, like 5-10 minutes. The really "hard" and interesting games can last even over 30 minutes, but don't happen that often.
The wiki for the game sadly doesn't work, but you should learn the basics in about 5 games. It's a pretty simple game, the biggest challenge here is being a good liar 8-) There's also abbreviations underlined with a dotted line, you can click on those to view what they mean (people use the abbreviations quite a lot).
A slight warning: some people can get pretty toxic :D
If you need any help or tips, ask here. I've been playing the game for about 2 days, it's a lot of fun and I think I've gotten a good idea how to play it well (both mob and villager side). If we get enough people on at the same time we can make cRPG only games!

I've played this to hell IRL as "Loups Garoux", almost the exact same rules with the exception of the special roles.

All the special roles in this one really put some depth to the game. For example you can be the Bomb, in which case if the mafia attacks you at night, you and the mobster visiting you die. But there's a gamemode with multiple possible setups (called "multi"), which has:
3 villagers
2 mafia
1 police
1 random role (either doctor, bomb, oracle and someone else i think)
So, if the Bomb is smart, he can try posing as a Doctor, in which case the mafia would try to kill him but would end up losing one of their own. Of course doesn't work if you're too obvious, since good maf players will take in account all the possible (4) scenarios that multi brings.
What I'm trying to say is that there's a lot of strategy involved, as well as your ability to lie :)
The standard set up is 3 villagers, 2 mafia, 1 police, 1 doctor. But you can make any kind of combination of roles if you feel like it when creating the game. Some games can get really complicated with all the roles. Even more so if there's a Disguiser role - the Disguiser takes the identity of a person that was killed that night... in that case he will use the same username as the person that was killed, as well as the role, it can get seriously confusing then :D

Been having some fun with this game, trolling in this game is also fun because some people take it so seriously and get mad as fuck. Had an epic end to a game earlier as Mafia, the gunsmith had given me a gun at night time ( obviously not realising I was Mafia ) and the following day this guy says "Lee is mafia", I shot him there and then and we won the game :lol:.

some games can get seriously epic, we actually had a game where we had two villagers left, one doctor and one mafia, doctor kept saving the one that was getting "killed" and we just couldn't figure out who is the maf... game went on for SIX (in-game) days and ended in a draw :D
one of my best games lasted for 40 minutes, I was the only maf left alone versus 5 people and they couldn't see through my lies until there was just 3 of us left and they just yoloed the lynch and got me :lol:

cop didn't out entire game until last day, fool was obvious, I knew 3 people were inno because I saved them, solved the mystery myself :) got 3 kudos for it from other players, one was even from maf :D #outplayed

Not that I know of, but I'd bet there is something like that. Whispers can leak for example, disguisers can take identity of other people, there's really a lot of shit that can happen, best to judge by the roles that were in the game you played.

I tend to be a racist prick against Turks every game when I've played with anyone from Fallen, have to say it's pretty funny how people react. Oh and the Turk is RP'ing Panos :D
