Each theme is so great and add to the feeling of exploration, faction-territorial themes change slightly when you are safe or about to get attacked, or in a real battle. BUT the main theme remains similar and the change is seemless, giving you lots of immersion.

Hats off to Kirill Pokrovsky, and Frank Klepacki, and many others.

This one has an ambient wind sfx track playing with it in the game, and it kills me that I can't find a video or mp3 of the song with the wind added. The gusting wind harmonizes with the song and it's one of my favorite video game musics ever.

You need to remove the "s" from "hptts"

the music from Heroes of Might and Magic 4 is just the best in the row, there were rounds when i just waited till the next song started until i ended my turn   :mrgreen:

another soundtrack you just need to fell in love with is this one:

The only bad thing about Bastion was that it ended....

One of the most famous games on NES with a catchy looped piece which was unexampledly annoying. It was repeated so much times when I was playing the game, that I have learned it by heart and even tried to play it on the piano when I was about 5-6 years old xD. It's amazing what kinda music some composers managed to squeeze out of older consoles. They had very limited sound capability... if you have ever used the music maker on Mario Paint for the SNES that is almost the limit of the SNES sound processing... but just listen to this. Damn.

Ah, I love this one. Though it's such a pity that they ruined this lovely game by requiring you to pull some out-of-this-world nonsensical trick at some totally irrelevant part of the map just to proceed midgame. Remembering it always fills me with two opposite feelings because of that. I smile, because I remember how much fun it was. Then I frown manically with murderous intent for the developers for making me wonder what the fuck was wrong with the game. Because I played and played and played and always got stuck somewhere along the game. I would fucking walk the entire map back and forth wondering what I was doing wrong. And years later I learn about that shitty so-called secret. Sigh. Just sigh.

How about a house/electro remix of a FF IV track?

I love artists that produce lo-fi hip-hop beats, and this track could totally be a modern release in that genre instead of a track from an SNES game that has low bitrate because that's all the SNES could handle...

I for one, liked bigbang and most of the recent patches. Less of a grind, many skills buffed. Had my main on like level 65 and it took forever to just get one level, like a week of grinding. Now i can actually level in a day or so even at level 130. Allthough my characters are bugged now and nexon wont help em.

But im also nostalgic towards pre-BB.. Less classes so less chaotic, all on global server and the grind was slow so those who actually were on the top were really famous like Fangblade, Tiger and Egoist. Maplestory 2 confirmed, i wonder if there is any chance of that succeeding..

This game was the pinnacle of 'cutting edge' AAA output in 1993-1994. 20 years later, and it has stood the test of time.

I haven't posted in my own thread for a while. Here's stuff from Earthbound, my favorite game of all time. It was released for SNES in 1995, towards the end of the console's life.  Music by Keiichi Suzuki (http://www.last.fm/music/Keiichi+Suzuki). Draws from earlier 16 bit rpgs, but there's no other SNES game with a soundtrack like this. Just listen.

You come upon a remote mountain town where everyone has been brainwashed into the cult of Happy Happyism. They must make everything blue! Paint the town blue!

This is an area where a scientist is chillin' and studyin' Stone Henge. Also his assistant is bigfoot. He is the grandfather of one of the party members.

The desert zone of the game. The music sounds like it's coming in on a tinny AM radio as you wander the desert.

Dalaam, the home of your fourth party member Prince Poo (yes, that's his default character name). It's Tibet/Bhuddist themed area.

Moonside is, well... You need to see it. You go into this run-down bar where the jukebox is playing this:

Pretty spooky, right? Well you tap a secret button on the jukebox and you black out. When you wake up you find yourself in Moonside...


This is the area before the first boss you fight. It's an arcade.

Skies of Arcadia is one of the last RPGs I played all the way to the end. If you like Final Fantasy or Golden Sun or Chrono Trigger etc. you have to play this. It has a lot of the genre cliches, but they are done so well you don't even care. And the setting is THE WORLD IS ALL SKY AND YOU ARE SKY PIRATES WITH A FLYING SHIP HOW CAN YOU NOT WANT TO PLAY THAT??? Storyline reminds me of cheesy 90s anime in the best way. Please Play This Game. I'm gonna go fish out my discs and play it again now that I made this post. It's been years.

Shenmue 2 has a really great soundtrack. It's a one-of-a-kind game (except for Shenmue 1) where you explore 80s China. Gamplay is a mix of detective-style stuff and fighter game combat. It's one of the first games I can think of that did Quick Time Events, and it did them better than any recent game I can think of. It's a like a good book; you feel like you're really there. The 80s China depicted in the game is rapidly disappearing as the nation modernizes itself now. Play it and get a glimpse of something that will one day be forever lost~~~ A majjor chunk of the game takes place in the Walled City of Kowloon, which has since been demolished and no longer exists. Getting kind of off-topic but here's a documentary on Kowloon (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lby9P3ms11w). Really cool shit.

That Twilight Princess track is just beautiful. Regrettably 'A Link to the Past' was the last Zelda game I played, though sometimes I consider buying a Wii just to play the ones I've missed. Or maybe I should buy a game pad and see how well they work emulated.

We used to have some version of Final Fight on those "insert coin" machines in a pub at our neighborhood, some 20-25 years ago, it was my favorite game, we always watched older guys playing it and getting far into the game where we couldn't get.  :wink:
I still remember the music from starting areas like slums, basement and train station.  8-)

Final fight is probably the best side-scroller beat'em up I've played since Golden Axe and before Turtles in Time. Both arcade and SNES versions were great.

If you like the music, watch a play-through of the game if you can't play it yourself. It's very movie/novel like, one of those single player games you can enjoy watching as much as playing.

Hotline Miami is a near perfect game.

I assume it's already been mentioned, so I'm not going to list music from the soundtrack of Baldur's Gate II, which sticks to me more than any other game.

One that I can't explain is the soundtrack of Heroes IV- especially the Chaos and Nature themes. So many memories of late night escapades with friends, I guess. In the same way we used to play RISK games that lasted a week, we played Heroes IV games that lasted awhile.

Majoras Mask is always the dodgy one for emulators. Didn't work on the Gamecube version or the Wii Virtual console properly either.

I like the Menu song (expanses 2  I believe, my phone fucks up alot of song/album names)

but hotline miami soundtracks are simply the best. They give you the feeling of playing the game again with a boost of adrenaline :)

I wouldn't say it's my favorite, as i normally turn the music off in all of my games along with adjusting buttons/options for the first time, but this one is from my childhood, and i heard is so-oo many times back then, that it kind of still sits in the back of my head somewhere...


imo it's pretty good for what the technology would allow back then.

HoMM3 is much better game and has overall better soundtrack (imho the best ever in games) but doesn't have this (the only reason why I spent many hours playing Heroes 4):



Jeremy Soule is the biggest celebrity among game music composers and considered as the greatest by most gamers but for me, Paul Romero is the final boss.

Dunno about that console shit (;P) but it certainly reminded me of some specific OST with similar childhood memories for me.

oh god, Max Payne, I´ve totally forgotten about that game, how could I :o the story and overall mood was amazing and it took a couple of years until I found a game which had a similar moody, narrative atmosphere (Alan Wake)

dat ending tune, that was like the end of a really good movie, and instead of standing up like the rest of the people in the cinema you just keep sitting and watching the credits roll. Old but great game.
