True, I won't denounce that, but it still seems like a shit ton of fun. Though, I'd have to admit that learning the historical swordsmanship and then applying them in a duel or a massive battle would seem "Bad Ass."
Although, me or you haven't been in a legitimate battle so trying to implement tactics as you would in a duel may or may not be so helpful in a full pitched battle.

So, fighting in armour basically amounts to who can bash each other in the head hardest with the biggest metal tipped stick. (The russians won in that vid cause they had more guys with big metal tipped sticks)

Depends on what you want. SCA is more than armoured dudes bashing each other. They have more general renaissance reenactment going on and have a wide reach. However, the techniques/rules they use for their individual fighting competitions are..suspect.

If its fighting in a historical manner that interests you ARMA/HEMA might be up your alley. They aren't as popular though so you may not have schools/groups in your area.

Another option if you're mainly interested in competition is to join a sport fencing club. Plenty of those around. If nothing else, a fencing clubs are easy to find and you'll figure out if you want to go deeper into the history or whether you just want to hit people with metal bits.

And lastly, if its purely the history that interest you there are plenty of books on the subject manner and internet resources.

We didn't duel like traditional kendo we just swung like madmen and tried to hit eachother. Was a lot of fun. I got smacked in the side of the head hard though right on the ear with a baseball type swing... it hurt like hell. Was pretty lucky I didn't get cauliflower ear or a minor concussion from that. Also there was a lot of blows which struck the hands and that also hurt like hell lol. :mrgreen:
Eventually one of the swords broke in and that was the end of that...

Erm... that sounds fun, but you should know:

Cane grows wild on every continent, is cheap if not free.

A kendo stick takes under an hour to make. Theres no reason to stop bashing ppl in the head bro, make your own!

Source: have made kendo stick and bamboo spears for many years (Im a redneck from deep South, but I also have carved many boken, is one of most therapeutic things ive done, leaving you with beautiful object after also)

Yeah I've seen their 1v1 duels and I'm not a fan, but what interests me is the Massive battle they have. And Also, have you seen "DrachenFest" over in Germany?

Seems Like it'll be hell of fun! Though it looks like they are hitting each other with floppy dildos, Que. ;3

Its true you'll be hard pressed to get into a big battle like scenario outside the sca or something involving boffers. The largest group fight I've been involving fencing weapons was about 30; the largest for historical weight weapons was 8. Both are a lot of fun. With the small group skirmishes we found if one group doesn't charge they die :P
