Title: Unban....maybe?
Post by: Jona on February 08, 2014, 11:46:16 pm
So according to one of my friends I was recently banned... not sure for how long or for what reason. Currently at work so I can't confirm whether or not this is true. Just hoping to find out so I know whether I got time to do some work later or waste time in crpg. :)

If anyone could let me know what the ban logs say, it would be greatly appreciated.

(bonus points if you can tell me my ban history)

Thanks.

You don't get the right to make such demands. When you decide to grow up, or actually contribute to this mod, you can be unbanned.

Well yeah, I will admit to that. Seeing how it is a first offense, should be a warning or relatively small ban... not exactly harming anyone. Essentially leeching, if anything. That is why I asked how long it is for...

It's your third ban on NA, you have two others for teamkilling.

As for the duration: if you don't understand why you were banned or how long it is for, I suggest you take another, closer look at that thread (http://forum.melee.org/general-discussion/dark-voodoo/) you made.

That would be post number 1.

So all the anti-semetic stuff was OK, but this was the straw that broke the donkey's back?

No.

However, posting a thread on various different glitches and then refusing to tell the mapmakers how you did it (so they can fucking fix it) is a pretty good reason for a ban.

You communicating that refusal in a cunty manner was more like icing on the cake than the actual reason for the ban.

hello, the bug Jona captured looks familiar to me, its linked with the balistas, i thought you know this already, if u need to know how it works, send me pm, but i am sure those thing are hard to fix, it's easier to delete all the balistas

I apologize beforehand for the bloated post.  I'm posting here because I heard this was an honest-for-goodness banned-for-life banning. I don't think permanent banning does the mod any good 99% of the time. That said, there is that 1%, but I can't think of a situation where it would be needed. Well, I can, but this isn't one of them.

Agreed, though the fact that he posted pictures is somewhat helpful.

As for his sentence, I think it was perma-banned?   Of course, perma-banned doesn't mean banned for life.

Was Jona being uncivil in his posts. Yes. So more than a day or two banning probably.

And I'll go ahead and address it, 'cause it's bound to come up,

So that 1% I mentioned? I think that's for people who are repeatedly ruining the mod for everyone they are in contact with, after several warnings and temp bans. Is Jona an ass at times? Without a doubt. Does he fit the bill for a life-long banning? I don't think so. Give him a week in the showers (at most), mute him on the forums a few days if you must and let us move on.

Perma ban IS permanent. The newer protocol is your account goes bye bye and you get a new CD key

Permanent here just meant "banned until the requested information was provided". It could have simply lasted 5 minutes, but he chose this outcome.

So he wasn't banned for sploiting he was banned for not supplying information? Where in the rules does it say anybody has to answer questions/provide information or else be banned? Which questions if refused to answer are bannable? I understand you want to fix the bug/exploit but this seems fubar.

Ok so do you know the exploit now? Is Jona unbanned? Or does he have to grovel and apologize first? Let it go, unban the man and allow us and our shitty little NA siege community to have fun again.

From my few days as a map maker for Quake 2/ Quake 3 Arena/ Unreal Tournament, etc I feel that finding the bug and removing it is the mapmakers responsibility and should be done prior to release. But then again that was an fps and several years ago, so maybe it changed...

Anyways, I don't see why he was banned honestly and I think the entire thing could have been handled much better on both teams side.
But maybe that is just me.
I dun know

banned or not though, Jona will always be a real human being and a real hero

Well...this is a bull shit ban on Jona, just because he criticized your mod. Complete bull shit. He pointed out things you can fix, so you ban him. Yep C-Rpg admins for ya.

Could he be un-muted so he can make an official apology at least?

I feel as though you have no actual idea as to what is going on..  I support the #FREEJONA movement, but I also believe what he did was utter bullshit.  Anyway, someone needs to make some Free Jona forum signatures.  :)

I miss seeing Jona on siege (although my shield has stayed pleasantly intact since his ban), but this and most other DTV drama could be fixed with one simple change:

Restrict the DTV game mode to <lvl 31 characters.

DTV should be a place to learn cRPG combat mechanics and/or slog through the peasant grind without being 1-shot by all the lvl 34+ tryhards at every turn. It should NOT be the fastest and most profitable way to grind your way to being one of those lvl 34+ tryhards. I got Gen 16, lvl 34 almost exclusively on low-population Siege, which certainly wasn't the fastest route (in fact, it's probably the slowest route) but it was a helluva lot more fun than mindlessly overheading bots on DTV. It truly pains me to see NA DTV populated with all the former NA Siege regulars while NA Siege sits empty. Any one of them would tell you that siege is more fun than DTV, but no one wants to sit on an empty server waiting for people to show up.

Jona doesn't exploit anything on Siege (except that ridiculous Spammaster's Staff sometimes), so he won't ruffle any more feathers if you just make him play there.
